Suicidal thoughts, much like mental health conditions, can affect anyone regardless of age, sex, or background. Suicide is often the result of an untreated mental health condition. Suicidal thoughts can be common but should never be considered normal and often indicate a bigger behavioral health issue.
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month — a time to raise awareness on this often-stigmatized topic. In addition to shifting public perception, we use this month to spread hope and key information to people affected by suicide. Our goal is to ensure that individuals, friends, and families have easy access to suicide prevention resources and are comfortable with getting support. Clinic Spotlight- Midway
The Midway at HealthPoint Clinic in Des Moines is co-located with HealthPoint (which offers medical, dental, and pharmaceutical services) and King County Public Health (which offers Maternity Support Services, Infant Case Management, and WIC). Midway is currently fully staffed with therapists, clinicians, case managers, a peer support specialist, and an intake specialist. Our client-centered staff work hard and play hard -- able to provide a robust treatment team of providers who are able to see clients within a week of starting services, while also loving a good snack break and light-hearted prank amongst staff members.
