LCWR Assembly

Sister Bernadine Reyes, OSB, Prioress (pictured far left) attended the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) Assembly in August in St. Louis, MO. She spent an evening with the Benedictines present (pictured). Upon returning home, Sr. Bernadine shared, "What I came away with from the LCWR Assembly is that we as a community must deepen in exploring the inner wisdom that has carried us thus far and will carry us forward in the chaotic complexities of our day, including who we are as community today."
September Reflection

Reflecting on the Sunday Gospels for September, the reading for September 11th called to me. We are certainly familiar with the parable of The Prodigal Son. It conveys God’s love for all of us, His children. God’s love is unconditional, equally loving to the faithful and the lost.

After the younger son requested “his share of the estate” he fractured the family and went off to a distant country, squandering his resources. A severe famine came, and he became very hungry. And the younger son...

Caridad de Corazón -
An Update from Sr. Ursula

Sr. Gail Hamilton, OSB and Sr. Catherine Marie Duenne, OSB (Benedictines from Ferdinand, Indiana) brought a van load of things for the immigrants on both sides of the border and spent time volunteering at the shelter, the mission house, and across the border.

Sr. Ursula Herrera, OSB, Director of our Caridad de Corazón ministry shared, "We visited the orphanages, the disabled children’s home and the Migrant Shelter in Piedras Negras, Coahuila. We are currently having an influx of immigrants coming into Eagle Pass. Many single young men are coming and it did not take long to use up all the donated items for men. That seems to be our greatest need at the moment." Click here for more information.
Corporate Responsibility -
An Update from Sr. Susan

Sr. Susan Mika is the Director of the Benedictine Sisters Corporate Responsibility Program and the Benedictine Coalition for Responsible Investment (BCRI).

Corporate Responsibility has been very busy and is gearing up for the fall. The Sisters’ involvement in Corporate Responsibility gives them a direct voice to be engaged in the pressing concerns of our time which affect quality of life in our local, national and global communities.

Health & Wholeness Update

Our Health and Wholeness Center (HWC) has been hosting the Special Olympics and Swimming Lessons/Water Therapy for Life Skills students for over 10 years. The Boerne Blaze Team, under the leadership of Sherri Cox and Jenny Cashion, practice and train on the property 7 days a week. In 2021 the program was gifted several stationary bikes which are kept in the HWC Activity Room. This allows student to prepare for all three areas of the Special Olympics while they are here – Swimming, Running and Biking.

This partnership is a blessing for everyone involved and one more way the pool is a gift to the community!

Sisters' Attic -
More Than Just a Thrift Store!
Sisters' Attic is a special place in the Boerne community. We received a lovely note from a shopper/friend. She has given us permission to share. Click here to learn more about Sisters' Attic Thrift Store.

"I have gone to the thrift store for quite a few years. I visit every other week or so. I don't know what I would do without Angie and the other ladies at the thrift store. They are some of the genuinely kindest and dear people I have ever known. I have been ill for a few years now and there are days when I feel like my soul needs a hug. I go see Angie. Sisters attic is much more than a thrift store. It is a place for comfort, healing, and a smile! And a few good finds doesn't hurt either!"

May All of us Remember
May all of us remember with love and compassion this day.
May we grieve with those who still mourn,
And share memories with those who cannot forget.
May we draw strength from those who bravely responded,
And gave their lives to save others.
May we stand with strangers who became neighbors that day,
And remember their generosity and hospitality.
Above all God, may we remember Your faithfulness
And learn to trust in Your unfailing love.
