From Drew/Andres Vogt, President, Casa de Kids
Hello Dear Readers & Donors,
We are thrilled to be able to share so much good news! We have hired two new team members - Nahomi Ruiz and Esteban Acevedo - both native Oaxacans, to further enable us to continue our Casa de Kids mission. Nahomi and Esteben have worked with us for a three-month trial period and we are keeping them! They are assisting us to "go to the next level" in tracking our student information, events, and general student support. See their photos below.
Also, two long-standing Casa de Kids Monthly Donors, Nigel and Alan, recently visited Oaxaca and again hosted a meet-and-greet with our students (photos below). In attendance were 25 students, 4 guests and 4 staff. These types of meetings with Donors are great ways for our students to learn about who is making their education possible and why. The students are greatly encouraged to know that other people who have been successful care about their education and the betterment of their lives.

Students' Progress

New CdK Team Members
Our two new Casa de Kids Team Members represent a BIG step forward! Below, is Nahomi Ruiz and Esteban Acevedo. They are rare "finds" for us, because they are both native Oaxacans, university degreed, and bilingual with English as their second language.

Thank you
to our regular Donors and Monthly Donors who make this transformative
work an ongoing success. Because of you, lives are empowered for the
better and communities are affected in positive and powerful ways.

Donor Participation in Oaxaca
In August, long-standing donors and advisors to Casa de Kids, Fred and Loren, visited Oaxaca. They brought with them a very special guest, Carol Snow, former CEO of the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of The Central Coast in Monterey, CA.
Carol holds a Masters Degree in Nursing from the University of Rochester, New York. She offered career advice to several of our medical students. In the photo, left, she is talking with Maatsa, a recent graduate in Physical Rehabilitation therapy. Maatsa is a native Oaxacan from a local Mixe tribe, and is trilingual. These courageous students who come from challenging circumstances thrive when supported by our program!

CDK Graduate Performed in August
In August we held our first ever fundraiser in Oaxaca. Jose Manuel Cruz, our recent graduate from the Manhattan School of Music, gave a piano recital. Several donors from the USA were also in attendance.
Now that we have our legal status in Mexico as a non-profit, Mexican donors can also receive tax benefits. Contact us if you need more information about that: info@casadekids.org

| | Why Oaxaca? Oaxaca City is the capital of the state of Oaxaca (pronounced wah-ha-kah). While our state is famous for native and culinary arts, it ranks as the country's third poorest and has one of the highest illiteracy rates. Its mountainous terrain makes commerce and education difficult, attracting many seeking a better life to Oaxaca City. | | |
