Almost all of Sequoia’s 72 active clubs were represented last Friday for Club Day 2025. The pathway in front of campus was converted into a massive gauntlet of students telling one another about their interests, soliciting new members, handing out candy or other treats, and leaning into their silly sides. At one point, I saw a giant lobster. (Not sure what was happening there.)
Club life at Sequoia is about finding your people. There’s a place for students who want to push themselves as emerging scientists, human rights advocates, artists, and athletes. There are also spaces for students who want to talk with their friends about a shared love of books, TV shows, music, or food. Here are a few of the clubs I learned about this year:
| | | Members of the Bagel Club at Sequoia raise awareness about the food waste and food insecurity in our community. | | The Vinylheads will be getting together each week to talk about essential music across genres. Students can expect to have their minds expanded. | | Lenguas en Resistencia gives students an opportunity to celebrate indigenous culture in the Western Hemisphere, drawing on our community’s own rich history and its connections across the continents. | | | The See Something, Say Something Club is dedicated to maintaining awareness of Sequoia’s anonymous platform for identifying students who may be in trouble or for potential threats to our community’s safety. | | | |
I am so proud of our students and the way in which our school’s values are reflected in its clubs and activities. I hope Sentinel readers get a chance to talk to their students about Club Day and what they took away from the event.
Have a great week!
Best,
Sean

PTSA Mini-Grants
Students and staff: Mini-Grants are coming! Through the support of the Sequoia High School Education Foundation, the PTSA is able to offer financial grants to enhance education and experiences at Sequoia. The grants of up to $750 are designed to inspire creative initiatives for learning, address a compelling need that might otherwise go unmet, and/or help students with project ideas benefiting the school. Applications will be accepted between 9/22 and 10/6. Please find additional information here.
Parents and Loved Ones: We need your help! If you have a few hours to review Mini-rant applications and meet with the other committee members (one to two evenings in October), we would love to have you join our review committee. No experience necessary. This is a great opportunity to learn about the wonderful projects happening at Sequoia.
