Sequoia PTSA's weekly eNewsletter in partnership with the Sequoia High School Education Foundation
|
|
Happy New Year! I will be honest, I was hoping to be out of doubt, out of questioning in person versus zoom meetings, etc.; yet the universe had other plans for me! Nevertheless, the PTSA is honored that Superintendent Dr. Williams accepted our invitation to join us for our meeting on Tuesday, January 11. We will send out an announcement the day before the meeting to clarify if it will be in person in Carrington Hall or via Zoom. Keep your fingers crossed for in person. Either way, this is a great opportunity to hear from Dr. Williams and hopefully she will be able to answer some of your burning questions.
While some things hang in the balance, Sequoia is full steam ahead and we have several opportunities for getting parents on campus to volunteer. Sequoia has a beautiful campus and is a unique space, and here is your chance to experience what your students' campus life is like. Basketball games will be starting soon and we would love a coordinator to arrange for concession sales. Please see the announcement in the Class News section of this newsletter.
To truly see the campus, consider volunteering to tag along on our Jan. 22 weekend campus tour for potential incoming 9th graders. Only a few slots left, sign up here.
Wondering what the PTSA does? Along with fundraising for graduation activities, offering mini grants, junior scholarships in late Feb./early March, producing this newsletter, and several other programs, the PTSA supports our staff and teachers with lunches, coffee carts, and extra special treats on holidays. With over 200 Sequoia staff members, it is no small feat, and I wanted to send an extra special thank you to Linda Solon and Christina Parsey, who make all of it happen! They put on a fabulous lunch for the staff prior to winter break and I know our staff felt the appreciation. Also, a huge thanks to everyone who volunteered their time and items to the lunch. To wear out a saying, it takes a village and I am proud to be part of this one!
All the best, Karen.

Holiday lunch - thank you! Almuerzo por las festividades – ¡Gracias!
|
|
Just before winter break, the ELAC and PTSA celebrated the Sequoia staff and teachers with a holiday luncheon. ELAC families provided homemade dishes, including tamales and pupusas, and community members donated salads, desserts, drinks, and gift cards for a holiday gift raffle.
So many community members came together to put on this event. Thanks to everyone who contributed and helped on the day of the event. A VERY special thank you to the ELAC family members who cooked and served the delicious food, AND to Elvira Macias for her coordination and hard work. It was a very special event in honor of our very special Sequoia staff and teachers.

Want to love where you work and what you do? Have some extra time to spend at our amazing schools, while getting paid?
SUHSD is looking for more Guest Teachers. The credential requirement for being a Guest Teacher is a California Teaching Credential (CTC) or 30-day substitute permit. Don't have that? Don't worry! SUHSD can assist you in applying for the 30-day sub permit; the requirements are simple:
-
Fingerprints for CTC ($79) and the district ($25), the district will pay the $25 fee
-
Bachelor's degree. Official transcripts must be sent to Human Resources (HR) directly from the college/university, or delivered in a sealed envelope
-
Basic skills requirement--see here for explanation on how the requirement can be fulfilled
- $102.50 application fee
Many parents have enjoyed working as Guest Teachers over the years, and some have gone on to permanent jobs within the district. Guest Teacher pay starts at $240 per day. More information is available here. The district hopes to hear from you! Questions? Email Human Resources.

Class of 2023 fundraiser - rep needed NOW! 🏀
|
|
Urgent! We need a representative for the class of 2023 to run home basketball concessions. Your child does not need to be a junior or on the basketball team for you to volunteer. This fundraiser helps keep the cost down for senior activities for the class of 2023.
Starting Jan. 28 there are four Friday home games where you will sell candy, popcorn, chips, snacks, and more. There are also opportunities to sell during weekday games. A sign-up sheet is created and volunteers fill the spots. It’s a great way to get on campus, see people, and have fun!! This is a well-run fundraiser and we have lots of info to make it super successful. Please email karenellerha@gmail.com with any questions.
