November 8 is opening night for Sequoia’s Fall Musical: Honk!. The play turns the classic fairy tale “The Ugly Duckling” into a fun, energetic reflection on tolerance. Thematically, it’s a perfect story to tell during an election season like the one we’re currently enduring. More importantly, it’s a perfect production to get kids excited about high school theater. To that end, Sequoia’s Talia Cain (helming her fourth musical as Sequoia’s drama teacher) will be inviting young students from local schools to attend the show. When the lights go down in Carrington Hall, we want some of those young people in the audience to envision themselves on that stage one day.
In a similar vein, Sequoia ASB students took over the main building on Friday afternoon in preparation for last night’s Haunted Hallways, an event designed to enchant kids in Redwood City and San Carlos. As they walk through the decorated spaces, interact with the high school students, and indulge their sweet tooth, we hope they’ll also form a positive mental image of themselves as future Sequoia Ravens.
Of course, if they were among the middle schoolers with whom I spoke last week at the homecoming game, they found their future selves playing with the pep band, performing with the dancers at halftime, leading the crowd with the cheer team, making a fourth down tackle, bouncing up and down in one of the homecoming floats, or celebrating the Ravens’ upset win with their friends in the bleachers. Nothing like an upset win against a top ranked team on homecoming night to make a school seem like a place you want to be someday. Thanks for the assist, Coach Mems!
Each event we host for the community is an opportunity for us to tell the story of our community and invite folks in. With this year’s 8th Grade Information Night coming up this week, we hope most folks in the crowd will have already had a positive experience on our campus. Next time you attend a concert, a game, or event at Sequoia, bring an amigo or neighbor with a young child along. Making a good impression is one of the things we love to do most. Sequoia is, after all, A Place Of Friends.
Have a great week!
Best,
Sean

9th Graders explore college campuses thanks to SHSEF funds! | |
College and career preparedness for all students is a main area SHSEF supports. This past Wednesday, all Sequoia 9th graders had the opportunity to visit and explore local college campuses. This experience, funded by SHSEF, inspires students and helps them ask more informed questions about college admissions, dorm life, and areas of study.
It’s because of our generous donors that we’re able to support opportunities like this. Help us support all our Ravens. Donate today.
