Happy fall!
Looks like fall is officially here even if Mother Nature didn't get the memo! We are excited to kick off October with our first official PTSA meeting this Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. (Meeting ID: 883 8444 8369 Passcode: 089276). Mr. Priest will start with a "state of the school" talk, and time permitting, answer questions. The mission of the PTSA is to provide parents, teachers, and students with information, and we are happy to announce that Safe Routes to School will be doing a presentation regarding safety and how to get involved. In our last Sentinel, we had a link to a petition asking the City to look at traffic around the school and specifically at Elwood and Brewster, which will also be discussed.
I recently attended the Superintendent's Parent Advisory Council and Dr. Williams re-iterated the District’s commitment to keeping everyone on campus. Thankfully, it seems as if our county's positive COVID cases are going down, which is allowing all the schools in the district to open up even more and provide more opportunities for kids and parents to get together on campus. Although Sequoia is not doing an in-person 8th Grade Shadow Program, we are running school tours for potential students on three Saturdays: October 23, November 20, and January 22. If you would like to tour along as well, we are looking for four to five people each Saturday to follow the ASB (Associated Student Body) student-led tours. It's an opportunity for you to meet potential incoming parents and tell them about your great (hopefully!) experience at Sequoia, answer questions, and get a glimpse of the school through the students’ eyes. Please email me with any questions.
There is also a link in this Sentinel to provide snacks for the upcoming PSAT this month.
Thank you for your time, donations, and support of Sequoia. Feel free to email us feedback, good, bad, etc. We want to be a voice for all at Sequoia.

2021-22 PTSA President

Campus tours are back - need parent chaperones!
|
We are bringing back our campus tours on Saturdays for current 8th graders and their families! These tours are a great opportunity for potential Sequoia families to tour the school, meet parents and teachers and start experiencing all the goodness that Sequoia brings. It is always nice to have a parent volunteer with each tour group (the tours are led by leadership students) so that they are able to provide a parent perspective and input on certain topics. Two to three parents would accompany each of the tours to chime in when they feel comfortable/appropriate with information and anecdotes and also answer any questions from the parent perspective!
We expect the time to be from 9:45 until 11:30 a.m. (tours begin at 10:00 a.m.; final tour departs at 10:30 a.m. or a few minutes after, and tours are expected to run about 60 minutes). Meet at the front steps of the school. Sign up here.

Adults can support a student by sharing their knowledge and experience about how to take steps towards a successful and rewarding career. Join our team! Ride the SamTrans to school!
|
Do you hate the stress of traffic during school drop-offs and pick-ups? If so, consider having your kids ride the SamTrans bus to school! Several bus routes serve Sequoia High school, and youth bus fare is only $1.10 one way.
Please consider advocating for extensions of the bus route that will link 12+ schools.
