Sequoia Sentinel
Sequoia PTSA's weekly newsletter in partnership with Sequoia High School Education Foundation
MAIN MESSAGE
Five reasons YOU should volunteer with PTSA next year
  1. You’re enjoying the SENTINEL right now, right? It takes volunteers to prepare this essential publication.
  2. We are a key contributor to the GREAT EXPERIENCE Sequoia families, students and staff have on campus — from staff appreciation, to new teacher gifts, to hot chocolate at football games ("deluxe, please!"), to the Mini-Grant Program, and so much more. Without the PTSA, Sequoia would be a very different place.
  3. You’re not helping ME, you’re helping SEQUOIA! (GO RAVENS!)
  4. This is your LAST OPPORTUNITY to participate in your student(s)’ school. They will be moving on to LIFE after this.
  5. Being A PART OF IT FEELS GOOD — like when your favorite song comes on the radio.

Don’t be shy, and we will train you. None of us has time but we do it anyway. We are recruiting for:
  • Secretary (attend and keep minutes for our monthly evening meeting)
  • Reflections Coordinator(s) (a few days in fall and spring is all it takes)
  • Sentinel Editors (members of a team, each producing one issue per month)
  • eBlast Coordinator (send ad-hoc grade specific emails upon request)
  • Auditor (twice-yearly audit of treasurer binder)
  • EVP (shadow President; host the Principal Coffees with SHSEF)

Contact me and tell me which job you want to do.

April 4: Reflections reception during PTSA/ELAC meeting
Reflections is a PTSA-sponsored program that encourages students to express themselves by creating original works of art guided by a selected theme. This year’s theme was Show Your Voice/Hazte Escuchar. Please join us at the Annual PTA Reflections reception as we recognize participating students. Students will be recognized at the beginning of the PTSA/ELAC meeting on April 4. Click here to view the finalists’ work. Do you love the arts and want to be part of next year’s Reflections team? April 2-23: Apply for Junior Achievement Awards
The PTSA gives out annual awards to recognize juniors who have demonstrated achievement in academics, community service, and resilience. This program is called the Junior Achievement Awards. The application for this award opens on April 2 and closes on April 23. Juniors should complete the application in order to be considered for this award. The link to this year’s application will be sent out on April 2. Click here to view a previous year’s application

Donate a prom ticket
Want to donate a prom ticket to a Sequoia student in need? As prices on EVERYTHING continue to rise, our costs to produce a special prom event do as well. We have done everything we can to keep the cost as low as possible, but we recognize that it is still a prohibitive price point for some. If you are able, please consider donating a prom ticket to a Sequoia student in need. Use THIS URL to purchase a ticket, and please contact Director of Student Activities Corey Uhalde with any questions.
SHSEF seeking database chair
SHSEF is looking for a database chair to manage our donor database. Tasks include pulling reports and segmentations for appeals, and assisting with the transition to a new system.
