MAIN MESSAGE
Some SENIOR moments
It’s been a GREAT year of activities and fun — but just because our last meeting is May 2, it does not mean the PTSA is done! PTSA has many great activities planned during 2023 Grad Week, including the FINAL (sniff sniff) Staff Luncheon on June 7, lunch for the seniors on June 7, brunch for the seniors on June 8, and the grand finale of SAFE AND SOBER GRAD NIGHT 2023 on June 9 at 10:00 p.m. sharp! Seniors: Buy your tickets for Grad Night TODAY before prices go up TOMORROW, Monday, May 1!

What Gives?
You may have heard me say that Sequoia PTSA is SHSEF funded. But then you see fundraisers on campus or in the Sentinel, such as hot chocolate at football games or the selling of evergreen wreaths in the winter. What gives?!? Does the PTSA fundraise, or is the PTSA funded? Well, Yes, and Yes:
Last But Not Least
Join us for the FINAL PTSA meeting of the year on Tuesday, May 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR).

PTSA Reflections 2022-23: Students honored for expressing themselves through art
The Reflections program encourages students to explore thoughts, feelings, and ideas; develop artistic literacy; increase confidence; and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life. At the April PTSA meeting, we celebrated students who participated this year. Three Sequoia students received Awards of Excellence from the 17th district, one of which also achieved an Award of Excellence at the State level to proceed as a finalist at the National level. View their work.

Next year’s theme is I am hopeful because…..Tengo esperanza porque…. More information about participating is available here. Due dates will be announced in early fall. Email us and be part of next year’s Reflections team!
HIGHLIGHTS
Sequoia Prom Gallery a big success!
Sequoia’s Prom Gallery 2023 was a big success, thanks to our amazing community! A total of 150 students attended; 123 students found a dress, suit, shoes, ties, jewelry, makeup, skincare, etc.; 28 dresses were given away with 10 of them from The Princess Project. Many thanks for the generosity of Sequoia families, The Princess Project, and Project Glimmer for their donations, and to our kind volunteers and skilled Sequoia staff for their time. Congratulations to the graduates of 2023!

PTSA 2022-23 Mini-Grants
The PTSA was able to fund 37 Mini-Grants this year, with funding from the Sequoia High School Education Fund. See two of the fantastic projects that were funded below.
$510 grant: Bianka Nessler, Special Ed/ILS field trip
Students were able to attend a live musical performance that brought cartoons to life through an engaging multisensory event. Field trips are an important part of community education for students with disabilities. This trip exposed the students to the arts/humanities (something many of them have never experienced before) and helped them learn appropriate behaviors in a theater during a performance. They really enjoyed the performance and asked if we could see more next year.
$750 Grant: Stemality Club science materials
The funding allowed Stemality to purchase materials for STEM activities with hundreds of students at local schools. Stemality benefits the Sequoia High School community by giving students a chance to introduce elementary school children to the exciting world of STEM. Sequoia students have gained leadership experience, accrued service hours, and supported the community.

Seniors: Financial aid
¡requisito de solicitud para ayuda financiera!
All high school seniors must complete a financial aid application, either the FAFSA or CADAA. Both applications provide students an opportunity to be considered for financial aid for college or vocational school. We encourage seniors to complete their application ASAP. FLEX workshops and appointments with College/Career Counselors are available. If you would like to complete the opt-out form or have questions about this requirement, please contact your assigned school counselor.
