December 2-3 in London - OffshoreAlert Conference London 2024 - Edward H. Davis, Jr. joined a distinguished panel addressing emerging issues in international fraud and asset recovery, while Tara J. Plochocki offered insights on fraud recovery challenges during an interactive Q&A titled, “Mastering Fraud Recovery - Part 2”. They were supported by Robert B. Kearney from our Washington, D.C. office, who was also in attendance.

November 6 in New York - 2024 ABI International North American Insolvency Program - Nyana Abreu Miller spoke on a panel discussing asset tracing in relation to international insolvency cases, along with Joel Cohen of Stout Risius Ross, LLC and Russell Crumpler of Teneo Capital.

October 24-25 in Miami - C5 Fraud, Asset Tracing & Recovery Miami 13th Edition - Sequor Law sponsored the successful event, where Edward H. Davis, Jr., Tara J. Plochocki, Christopher A. Noel and Juan J. Mendoza were speakers. In anticipation and preparation for the conference, the team also co-hosted a dinner with London-based Astraea Group that was well attended by industry leaders and innovators.

September 15-20 in Mexico City - IBA Annual Conference - Arnoldo “Arnie” Lacayo co-moderate a panel titled: Civil asset recovery in the Americas – the indispensable role of insolvency tools and remedies. He also participated in planning other events in Mexico City, including the Mock Trial, and in the planning for future IBA Asset Recovery Committee events.

September 12-14 in Puebla - 40th ICC Fraudnet International Conference & Meeting - Arnoldo “Arnie” Lacayo and Edward H. Davis, Jr attended the conference, where Arnie presented alongside Catherine Naylor, Paul Mitchell KC, Martin Kenney and Stephen Baker on the topic of Succession in International Families.

September 6 in Santiago - International Insolvency Institute’s Latin America ConferenceNyana Abreu Miller spoke on a panel about chapter 11 (in Spanish!).

September 4 Webinar - C5 Fraud, Asset Tracing & Recovery Miami - Edward H. Davis, Jr. presented an engaging webinar on cross-border fraud and asset tracing along with Stevens & Boltons’ Sarah Murray, Ogier’s Christopher Levers, and Prieto Cabrera & Associados’ Aimee Prieto.

Get to Know Robert B. Kearney

What inspired you to pursue a law career? My dad was a small-town doctor. It was really important to him to help people in his community to—literally—get back on their feet. His role as a healer was more than a vocation to him; it was his identity and his calling. When I was in middle school, he was wrongfully forced out of the clinic he had helped build. The excuse the clinic provided was that he could no longer provide adequate care. Although the termination itself was certainly alarming, he was completely heartbroken by the insinuation that he ever provided anything other than the highest standard of care. That insinuation tarnished his very understanding of himself, I think. It truly changed him for a long time. Eventually, he filed a lawsuit against his former clinic and, when I was in college, he won, receiving some backpay for the wrongful termination. What mattered most to him, however, was that a jury of his peers had sat down and certified, after weeks of testimony, that his termination had nothing to do with his ability to heal. It really gave him back to us, in a lot of ways...
