Happy Retirement Doey!
Today Chief Hanlon and the Whitman Police Department thank School Crossing Guard Dorothy “Doey” Saunders for her 34 years of dedicated service to the Town of Whitman.
Doey has provided a constant source of professionalism, safety, and comfort to all who passed by her. Her kind demeanor and bubbly personality will be greatly missed.
A special thanks to Whitman Middle School Principal Kerri Sandler and all of the Whitman Crossing Guards for making Doey’s last day so special.
If you happen to see Doey at her last shift today at the Duval School then please thank her for her service! We wish Doey much happiness in her retirement. She will be missed 💙.

Historical Tidbit:
Making the Past Last
|
Founded in 1791, the Massachusetts Historical Society, an independent research library, is an invaluable resource for American history, life, and culture. Its extraordinary collections tell the story of America through millions of rare and unique documents, artifacts, and irreplaceable national treasures.
As the nation's first historical society, the MHS strives to enhance the understanding of our nation's past and its connection to the present, demonstrating that history is not just a series of events that happened to individuals long ago, but is integral to the fabric of our daily lives.
Its collections are accessible to anyone with an interest in American history. Beyond research, the MHS offers many ways for the public to enjoy its collections, including free exhibitions, public lectures, tours, brown-bag lunches, seminars, and teacher workshops.

Did You Know-The Whitman Cultural Council (WCC) received a $10,000 grant in 2021?
Unfortunately, there were not enough volunteers on the 7 member council to award the grant funds within our community and the funds went unused, and returned to the state of MA.
I was recently appointed as a volunteer to the WCC, however more volunteers are needed in order to have a quorum to hold a meeting and authorize awards of grant funds. This is a 7 member council and 3 more are needed.
To learn more about MA Local Cultural Councils:
You’re invited to join me on the Council! My hope is that we can begin to bring back the summer concerts, field trips, library and Senior Center programs that were funded by the WCC.

The Bird Serenade
Each morning, my window slightly open, I wake up to the bird serenade in the dim morning light.
...a daily reminder of these delicate beings that share our earth...their chirps and songs both beautiful and powerful in sheer volume.
"A bird does not sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song."
~Chinese Proverb
"Birds sing after a storm; why shouldn’t people feel as free to delight in whatever remains to them?"
~ Rose Kennedy
"Keep a green tree in your heart and perhaps the singing bird will come."
~Lois Lowry
"Wakefulness is not a destination but a song the human heart keeps singing, the way birds keep singing at the first sign of light." ~Mark Nepo
|
They thrive in the shade of their trees, they soar through the open skies, they sing their morning song ... these that are so small, so frail. Even the smallest can have a tremendous impact in this world, if they are many. ~ Jacquie
