A Message From Our President

We often look to coffee to get us going each day, why not look to prayer and God's daily word to get us motivated, restored and redirected to the joy and hope that life brings us each and every day. We each have a prayer life so special to us  - this is a great reminder that God's daily word is the motivation we need to keep each day bright, no matter the challenges that face us.

Summit/Founders Day -  TONIGHT, October. 6, 2016
As mentioned in last week's SerraDIPITY, our annual Founders' Day Summit will be held  this evening, Thursday, October 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Muzzy Family Student Activity Center.

Our Summit is a time when SJSC Parent Advisory Board leadership and their committees gather to receive the Annual Report, review school-wide goals and based on those goals, set individual committee goals. Mr. Doug Hayden is our Advisory Board Chair working closely with myself and the following committees: Advancement, Construction/Facilities, Curriculum, Finance, Marketing, PTO, Parish/Community Outreach, Legal/Administration, and Technology. Each committee consists of administrators and parent volunteers working together to continually move our school forward...SIEMPRE ADELANTE.

We strongly encourage our parents to attend this very important meeting. You are invited to join us as an observer of this wonderful event. Hospitality and seats in the bleachers will be available for you. As an observer, you will learn a great deal and will be proud of the parent leadership that represents you in all areas.

Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Mass - Thursday, October 13
We hope  you will join us for our Mass on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 9:30 a.m. to pray as a community in the presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ. We will also be praying the Holy Rosary as a school, led by our 6th-grade class, growing us closer to God's Mercy. We are blessed to welcome Father Duy from San Francisco Solano as our celebrant.  Mass will be for students in Grades One through Eight; however, all students TK through Eight are required to wear Formal Uniform. We do have permit parking in the neighborhood but NO parking is allowed in the Memorial Care parking lot.

PTO will again be hosting a Parent Fellowship Coffee Social immediately following Mass. More information can be found in the PTO section below.

We would love for you to join us on this special day. We have so  many blessings to be grateful for and to celebrate during Mass next Thursday.

Service Projects During the Month of October:
  • Food for Friends Food Drive - Friday, October 14
  • Missionary Childhood Association Collection at Mass- Thursday, October 13
  • Pennies from Heaven supporting Respect Life Shelters- Oct. 3- Oct. 19
  • Supporting Haiti and Father Marc after Hurricane Matthew (more to come soon)
As a community dedicated to a missionary spirit as our patron St. Junipero Serra, we have service projects each month to support various organizations. You will find information on these Christian service projects mentioned in my section and throughout the Serra DIPITY. Students also learn more about these projects on SerraVision and our Facebook and Twitter pages.

2016-2017 Family Directory

Our Family Directory is now available to view and can be found in the Parents Only section of our new website, which is a password protected area. You will need your passkey information to access this section that was sent home in the first Weekly Envelope on the first day of school. You will no longer need a username - just the passkey. You may also  CLICK HERE to login.

Parents, please know that the Family Directory is provided as a service to our St. Serra families. The directory, as authorized by our families during the registration process, is only available during the academic year in which authorization was given. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you print out a copy of the directory for use after the academic year.

Please also know that all St. Serra families may not be included, as some families requested the omission of their information from this directory.

CONDITIONS OF USE:
By downloading the 2016-2017 St. Serra Catholic School Family Directory for viewing either electronically or by output, as a St. Serra parent, you agree to utilize the information for your own personal use; information contained in the directory may NOT be used for commercial use or mass distribution.

God is Good...All the Time.

Christ's Blessings,

Angeline Trudell
President

Principals' Corner

PARENT CONFERENCES

As we continue to partner in your child's education, we encourage open and ongoing communication throughout the school year. Parent, teacher, and student communication should be envisioned as a process, rather than as an event. All St. Junipero Serra Catholic teachers participate in on-going communication with parents. Communication takes place via Sycamore, e-mail, telephone, and scheduling conferences as needed. It is our hope that all concerns are being addressed as they arise and are not being held until the set conference days. As our scheduled conference days approach, we hope you will take this opportunity to be updated on your student's progress.

Mark your calendars: Wednesday, November 16, Thursday, November 17, and Friday, November 18.

Preschool & TK-Grade 4 Scheduling Forms will be in today's Weekly Envelope. You may download a Conference Form for Grades TK-4 by clicking HERE. You will also find additional copies at the front desk.

Special Note Regarding Conferences: All specialty teachers, including Small Group and Advanced Plus teachers will be available for 15 minute drop in conferencing as desired.

Grade 5-8 Conference information will be included in next week's Serra DIPITY

PROGRESS REPORTS for Grades 3-8
Teachers will be sending home progress reports.  Please sign and return to your child's homeroom teacher.

2016 Golf Classic

The 2016 St. Junipero Serra Catholic School Golf Classic  took place last Thursday, September 29, at Tijeras Creek Golf Club. Together over 200 golfers, dinner and silent auction guests enjoyed a wonderful day & night in support of our incredible school.

The St. Serra PTO Board would like to gratefully thank Event Chairs, Elizabeth Gould and Nicole Curtis, along with PTO VP Golf, Stephanie Angelos, for their leadership, creativity and unwavering dedication to the success of this special event. In addition, the 21st Annual Golf Classic would not have been possible without our hardworking Committee Members, our generous sponsors, the SJSC staff and administrators, the staff at Tijeras Creek, and ALL the parent volunteers who helped out both on and off the course! Thank you all for your generosity, time and support!

We would like to extend a special thank you to the following volunteers for their extensive help in the days leading up to the tournament: Mark Pitino, Lia Williams, Jamie Gorrell, Kim Karney, Lisa Reed, Allie Bertocchini, Alex Simon, Megan Richards, Karyn Pickart, Dawn Bilawa, Stacey Kane, Alice Manning and Gwenne Kooman.

Lastly, St. Serra was thrilled to welcome the Ball Drop Helicopter to campus last Friday, September 30.  It was a joy to include the kids in this St. Serra tradition and to see the excitement on their faces as the helicopter dropped thousands of balls onto the field.  Please be on the lookout; Ball Drop photos and the Ball Drop video are coming soon!
