A Message From Our President

Lent challenges us to work on our journey with Christ.  This simple message reminds us that if we choose the virtues Christ wants for us, the challenges of our lives become bearable.

Let's join together to choose hope, love and faith,  and choose Christ this Lent.

SJSC Students and Alumna Recognized for Their Outstanding Writing and Artwork at Chapman University Holocaust Contest.

On March 10, two St. Junipero Serra Catholic students and one SJSC graduate were recognized at the 18th Annual Chapman University Holocaust Art and Writing Contest awards ceremony for their outstanding writing.

Each year, SJSC submits one piece of student art and two student essays to the contest. This year, Ashleigh M.'s painting, titled Transcending Hatred, was chosen as the SJSC art submission. Lyndsey I.'s essay, titled Lives of Color, and Speedy L.'s essay, titled Bringing Hope, were selected as our school's entries in the writing competition. Lyndsey and Speedy's essays were chosen as two of the five finalists in the middle school prose category, and Lyndsey's essay went on to be named the winner.  In addition, SJSC alumna Lillia Velau's ('15) essay was chosen as the first-place entry in the high school prose division.

Two hundred fifty middle and high schools-and some 7,000 students--from more than 30 states and 8 countries participated in this year's contest.   This is not the first time the work of SJSC students has been recognized. Each year, two student essays are forwarded to Chapman University for the final round of judging. This is the third year in a row that both essays submitted were selected as finalists and that one of those essays went on to place first or second.

To have the writing of two current SJSC students and an SJSC alumna recognized in a competition of this scope and caliber is exciting. It speaks not only to the quality of the students' work but also to the quality of the writing program we offer. Our program gives students a strong foundation that serves them well here at SJSC and beyond. Most importantly, though, the impressive work of these students speaks to the empathy and justice that the entire SJSC community-parents, faculty, and staff--strives to model every day.
God is Good... All the Time,

Angeline Trudell
President

2016-2017 ANNUAL FUND AND CHAPEL SUPPORT
Thank you to all who have donated to the 2nd Annual Fund Appeal...your donation is greatly appreciated!  Have you been on campus and noticed our new Hydration Stations, or have your children told you how great they are?  Not only does this positively affect the health and productivity of our students, staff and guests on campus, but it allows us to be more environmentally friendly.  As of Wednesday afternoon 2,814bottles have been saved!  Our goal is to add additional units throughout the campus - and Annual Fund dollars will allow us to do so.  If you have not contributed to this year's Annual Fund, you may do so by clicking here. Remember anyone who donates $1,995.00 + will be invited to attend a very special appreciation dinner on May 4!

In addition to making your Annual Fund donation, you can help support the Chapel Fund by purchasing a water bottle for you and or your student(s).  These special St. Serra logo water bottles are now being sold online via a special page  on the school website and all proceeds will go to support  the Chapel Fund.
