Stronger together... we lift each other up. We are SERRASTRONG!
And let us consider how to lift up one another, to love and good works
- Hebrews 10:24

A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT TRUDELL

Welcome back and Happy New Year! We hope you enjoyed a blessed Christmas Season with family and friends. We pray that the virtues of the Christmas Season - hope, joy, peace and love - shine brightly in 2018.

Prior to our Christmas break, our youngest St. Serra Bears performed at their Preschool Christmas Concert to the delight of all those in attendance. Please look for a video of highlights from their performance early next week on our website under
campus life>Christmas concerts .
Food For Friends
Tomorrow, Friday January 12  - Start the Year off Ending Hunger

As our Christmas season winds down, you hear a shift in priorities.  People are talking a little less about the giving season and little more about their New Year's resolutions. Many are looking at the year ahead and wondering what will be different than the year before. What will their focus be and will they stay on track with their resolutions?  Everyone's priorities are different, but one thing may remain the same, will the state of hunger in our community change or improve at all? This situation is dire for so many families and there isn't an end in sight for many of them. Thanks to your continued help you can make a difference in someone's life by donating a small food item supporting our parish food banks tomorrow, Friday, January 12. Please see the listing of food items needed in today's Monthly Envelope.

The one who is gracious to the poor lends to the Lord, and the Lord will repay him for his good deed.  Proverbs 19:17
Bus Shuttle Service Announcement
Effective Tuesday, January 16, 2018, the St. Serra Bus Shuttle Service will be discontinued due to lack of usage. Parents are still welcome to park in the designated spots at the off-site facility (on Arroya Vista) and walk to campus if they would like to.

The Shuttle Service may be reinstated for specific events (such as Harvest Festival, etc.) and will be announced accordingly.

CLICK HERE for the January Renaissance STAR Testing Schedule

HELPFUL TEST TAKING NOTES:
  • Make sure your children have eaten well on test days. Studies suggest that good nutrition is related to improved attention and concentration.
  • Help your children by encouraging a good night's rest.
  • Ensure that your children make it to school on-time so that they do not miss any instructions and are allowed ample time to settle in and relax before the test begins.
  • Please do not schedule dental or doctor appointments on testing days.
  • Although it is important to let students know the tests should be taken seriously, it is also important not to increase their test-taking anxiety.
Save the Date!
You and your family are invited to a SPORTS themed FAMILY STEAM NIGHT at St. Junipero Serra Catholic School on  March 13 at 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

This will be a free, family fun-filled evening for all.  More information to follow.
MESSAGE FROM THE HEALTH ROOM REGARDING ILLNESS
In the past few weeks we have noticed a rise in flu cases and other contagious illnesses at St. Serra and in our local community.  The current strain of influenza H3N2 is said to be one of the strongest strains on record. The symptoms include fever, chills, fatigue, cough, headache and muscle aches. It can take from 5-7 days to recover.

In order to stop the spread of contagious illnesses, it is vital that you do not send your child to school sick. Children taking prescribed medication must take a full round of the medication before they return to school. Our school policy states that students must be fever free (99.6 and above is considered a fever) for 24 hours and no longer contagious before returning to school. Please make sure your child feels well enough to attend school.
Please remind your children of the following flu prevention guidelines:
  • Hand washing is crucial in preventing germs from spreading. Wash hands regularly with warm water and soap. If soap and water are not accessible, use hand sanitizer.
  • Children should be reminded to cover their cough/sneeze and use a tissue.
  • Do not share food or drinks. Drink plenty of fluids.
  • It is highly recommended that children take a daily multivitamin.
  • Get plenty of sleep.
  • Flu shots are recommended.
If your child has been diagnosed with a contagious illness i.e. flu, strep throat, pink eye, please notify the Health Room as soon as possible. Children who have been hospitalized must have a doctor's note before they return to school. If the Health Room calls to report that your child is sick or injured; our policy states that you must pick your child up within 45 minutes of being called. If you are unable to pick your child up within the specified time frame, you will need to contact someone on your emergency form to pick up your child.

We have this policy in place not only for the health and safety of your children but also for the well-being of our teachers and staff.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Once again this year, we are extremely limited with parking for our guests.  Keep this in mind when making your plans for this day. We strongly recommend that all guests carpool with their students.
