We were honored to celebrate our New Life Mass on Tuesday with our Bishop, The Most Reverend Kevin Vann. Joining him were Fr. Ted Olson and Deacon Carl Swanson, from our parish San Francisco Solano, along with our School Chaplain, Fr. Jim Dunning. The Bishop mentioned his excitement at seeing the progress of the new Chapel and reminded us during his homily to be friends of Jesus and spread the news that the Risen Christ is among us. The Bishop also looks forward to coming back on October 6, 2018 for the blessing of our Chapel.

We also know that prayer works. I love this thought about prayer because I think if we just take a moment, we will see that God not only listens, He gives us more than we ask.

The deadline for recording all Service Hours for 2017-2018 (5/1/17 to 4/30/18) is 
Monday, April 30, 2018.   
Families who do not record and/or fulfill their required hours will be invoiced in May for any unfulfilled hours at the rate of $15 per hour, per unperformed hour.

  • On behalf of the PTO, VP HeartRun Teacia Andrew, and the entire SJSC community, we would like to extend a big THANK YOU to our HeartRun Event Chairs, Mrs. Gina Christiansen and Mrs. Michele Polana, for all the hard work and love they put into this special day! They planned all the successful details for the day of the event and put their true positive spirit into the HeartRun!  It was wonderful to see all the kids running for a purpose in their RED t-shirts along with their friends, teachers, staff and parents who came out to cheer.   • We also want to thank all the families who participated in raising money for the American Heart Association through ALL the generous donations.
  • Non-uniform Dress Pass day is Tuesday, April 24. Please see the PARENTS ONLY section under PTO News and information on the SJSC website for the list of qualifying students.
  • Our final Box Tops collection deadline is May 18, 2018. Keep those coupons coming and help us earn extra cash for our school programs. Thank you for everyone's efforts this year so far!
  • For every 5 Box Tops a student turns in since February 17, that student's name will be entered in our final drawing. Send the coupons in a zipper bag or envelope (label with your child's full name and homeroom)
  • We will also hold a special drawing for students who have turned in 50 or more labels all year!

Parent  Information  Meeting f or 2018-2019 
Thursday, May 3, 8:15 a.m.

A parent information meetin g is scheduled for Thursday, May 3, at 8:15 a.m. in the ELS lab (PEB room, 226). ELS is a computerized, multi-sensory, interactive program that improves focus, strengthens information proce ssing skills, and enhances a variety of academic skills (e.g., reading decoding, reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary development, and spelling). If your child is struggling with reading skills, lacks confidence in academics skills, has difficulty understanding or remembering  information, takes a long time to complete schoolwork or homework, has limited independent learning skills, and/or benefits from additional academic support, ELS may help. ELS provides a fun environment where students strengthen their skills in a game-like format and earn points and prizes for their efforts. 

There are two after-school sessions available:  1:50-2:35 p.m. (for students in grades K through 2) and  2:50-3:40 p.m. (for students in grades 3 through 8). Students attend ELS up to four days per week ( Monday through  Thursday) for a minimum of one academic year. April 30, 2018  is the last day you can volunteer for recess/lunch duty for the current 2017-2018 school year. If you need one or two more hours, please email Rosie Chavez at  rchavez@serraschool.org.  

There is still time to join us and "The Hungry Caterpillar", in the Library, for the Founder's Circle Dinner by donating $1,995 or more before April 27. This unique private dinner on May 10 will be cooked and served on campus by Hanna's Restaruant and Bar.
BUT WAIT - Not a Founder's Circle candidate - we still need your participation!
Imagine if every family gave what they could ; our SMARTLABS would be fully funded.
We are trying to hit a giving level of $150,000 by June 30. If you haven't done so, won't you please donate today. Don't put it off! The school year will be over before we know it! If you haven't given to the 2017-2018 Annual Fund yet, you can DONATE  now.  We are so grateful for EACH and EVERY gift!

Come meet the Whos from Whoville and dance with the Wickersham brothers!  Musical students from grades one through eight will be performing  April 26-28  in the Student Activity Center.

In-N-Out® lunch will be served on the following Thursdays in May: May 10, May 17 and May 24. Ordering for May closes, TOMORROW, Friday, April 20 at 3:00 p.m. As a reminder, there is no In-N-Out on May 3, so please plan accordingly. May will be the last opportunity to order In-N-Out this school year. So don't miss out!

End of Scrip Year Schedule:
The 2017-2018 Scrip year ends on April 30, 2018. This will include:
  • Daily morning sales through and including April 30.
  • Daily envelope orders received on Friday, April 27 and filled on Monday, April 30.
  • Prestopay orders placed on shopwithscrip.com, due by 7:30 a.m. sharp on Monday, April 30, 2018. All orders received after this deadline will count towards 2018-2019.
  • Weekly orders submitted on Monday, April 30. All weekly orders MUST BE RECEIVED BY 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 30, 2018 to qualify for 2017-2018. All orders received after this deadline will count towards 2018-2019. 
    There are 2 more weekly orders for 2017-2018: Monday April 23 and Monday, April 30.

Small Denominations are now available on shopwithscrip.com through May 25 or while supplies last. If you do not have an account on the website, you may add items to the weekly order form.

Online orders will be closing mid-May. A very limited number of yearbooks will be sold after distribution and will be on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved. To ensure that your student receives a yearbook with their class on distribution day, order your yearbook NOW by CLICKING HERE.

The Library will be closed for this school year on  Friday, May 18 . This is the last day to check out a book.  ALL BOOKS will be due back no later than  May 25 . If your child is not done with the book, please make arrangements to find another copy elsewhere prior to the due date. If your student's book is not returned, you will receive a fine notice for the replacement cost of the book and it will be automatically processed by the Accounting and Finance Office.  Please contact Mrs. Bummer at  ebummer@serraschool.org   with any questions or concerns you may have.

May Crowning and Rosary - St. Kilian's 3rd & 4th-grade RE class invites you to join them as they honor Mary with songs and prayers on Wednesday, May 2, 4:00 - 4:45 p.m. First Communion children are encouraged to wear their First Communion outfits. Rosaries will be provided. Please bring a flower to honor Mary.
