A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT TRUDELL
IMPORTANT CALENDAR DATES FOR THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR 2018-2019
As previously announced, we are excited to open the new school year 2018-2019 with our entire campus completed. To ensure we are ready to welcome everyone back, our school calendar begins after Labor Day 2018. We thought it might be beneficial to again provide you with these key dates. Watch for the "Year-at-a-Glance" Calendar which will be in SerraDIPITY by mid-May.

Spring Break vs Easter Break 2018-19: I am aware that some of our high schools have determined, for various academic reasons, that their spring break will be at the end of March 2019 instead of immediately following Easter. Although this is challenging for us, we will not be making this change. Being in school during all of Lent and Holy Week are essential to our Catholic faith and identity. The Diocese of Orange feels strongly that we, as elementary schools, need to continue to keep Easter Break as a celebration of the Resurrection. SMCHS will have spring break in March, the last week. JSerra High School will have spring break the same week we do, in April after Easter. I am more than aware of the challenges this might be to some of our families...we will make it through this one year.
Save the Date for a Weekend of Celebration and Blessing of our Chapel, October 6-7, 2018. Special visit by Bishop Vann, family events, tours and prayer services/Mass plus much more.

The love demonstrated to us by the death and Resurrection of Christ is an unconditional love. For we know that Christ loved everyone. We may not always see examples of this in our lives, but we are called to love as Christ does us with an unconditional heart and an acceptance for all.
God is Good All the Time...
All the Time God is Good.

Leveraging Matching Gift Companies and Community Partners
As you know, we are trying to hit a giving level of $150,000 by June 30 in order to support our new SMARTLABS, due to open in the fall.
This week, we were presented with a grant check from Pacific Life Foundation to support our SMARTLABS! Two of our families who work for Pacific Life helped make that happen. Perhaps your company has a grants or charitable giving program that support STEM education or the Arts? We would love to hear about it if they do!
Additionally, many families who work for matching gift companies, double and sometimes triple their donation by participating in their company's matching gift or community giving program. Perhaps you work for a matching gift company and don't even know it - look HERE
to find out. We would be glad to answer any questions you have to help you maximize your giving.
Matching gift opportunity or not, if you haven't given to the 2017-2018 Annual Fund yet, please
now. We are so grateful for every gift and would love to increase our parent participation to help us reach the 85% participation by our teachers and staff. To do that, we need EVERY family's help.
Imagine if every family gave what they could; we would be well on our way for the SMARTLABS to be fully funded.

ESSENTIAL LEARNING SYSTEMS (ELS) PROGRAM
Parent Information Meeting f
Thursday, May 3, 8:15 a.m.
A parent information meetin
g is scheduled for Thursday, May 3, at 8:15 a.m. in the ELS lab (PEB room, 226). ELS is a computerized, multi-sensory, interactive program that improves focus, strengthens information proce
ssing skills, and enhances a variety of academic skills (e.g., reading decoding, reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary development, and spelling). If your child is struggling with reading skills, lacks confidence in academics skills, has difficulty understanding or remembering information, takes a long time to complete schoolwork or homework, has limited independent learning skills, and/or benefits from additional academic support, ELS may help. ELS provides a fun environment where students strengthen their skills in a game-like format and earn points and prizes for their efforts.
There are two after-school sessions available:
(for students in grades K through 2) and
(for students in grades 3 through 8). Students attend ELS up to four days per week (
) for a minimum of one academic year. Please e-mail Dr. Lori Quigley, at
if you would like more information or to attend this informational meeting.

"On a whim I searched for Sirius XM Radio scrip as I had to pay our annual bill of $230. Guess what...it's there! SO thrilled! I'm sure there are many families that have Sirius XM Radio in their cars...I earned $9 on this one!"
Sirius XM is available on both shopwithscrip.com and scripsense.com.
