At His Baptism, our sinless Lord identified with sinners, namely you and me. He took on our sins to die on the Cross to atone for them and to rise again to declare us right with the Father. And He did so not only for us, but for all people who ever lived and will ever live. In our Baptism, we receive these benefits won for us in His death and resurrection; namely, forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation, as He claims us as His own into eternity. God desires Baptism for all, even for the weakest among us. We pray for all babies in the womb that He would bring them safely to their birth and their Baptism. And we pray for all who are unchurched, including the disabled and the elderly at the 11th hour of their lives, that God would bring them as well to the font and into His kingdom to receive the very same gifts with which we have been blessed. God’s gift of Baptism is His affirmation that all human life is truly precious to Him.

In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus tells us, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you…”
For 2026, it is New Year’s resolution season. All over our continent, people have likely made promises to themselves and others with the best effort and intent. However, statistics show most of these will have fallen short in about a week from now.
Thankfully, what Jesus said in the above verses upon the event of His Ascension is a resolve still taken up and effective today.
Just look below at the community invitation on the website of our 2025-26 domestic Mission 1-1-1 recipient, Blessed Sacrament Lutheran Church, Hayden, ID:
“Looking for a confessional, liturgical Lutheran church in Hayden, Idaho? Blessed Sacrament Lutheran Church is an LCMS congregation committed to upholding the inerrant Holy Scriptures and the Book of Concord of 1580. Join us for historic liturgy, faithful preaching, and a warm community dedicated to preserving orthodox Catholic faith in the heart of Hayden, ID.”
Rev. Marcus Williams and this church plant are about the business of fulfilling the Great Commission. And while this congregation is not dependent upon our effort and intentions, they are certainly aided by them. Let us re-commit this year to 1-1-1 Dollar for Missions with our weekly, faithful contributions and by continuing to saturate this campaign with Scripture and surround it with communication.
We know we are not alone in our resolve, as the Lord Himself closes: it is His presence that wins the day! “…And lo, I will be with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20b
