1-1-1 for Missions
The Church of St. Mark-Lutheran Mississauga,ON, Canada

About five months ago Pastor Phillip Gai spoke to Pastor Derek Mathers regarding the 1-1-1 Mission Program. It was being promoted in the English-speaking services at St. Mark but not in the Nuer speaking service on Sunday afternoon. Pastor Phillip asked Pastor Derek to introduce the program to the South Sudanese congregation .
There was concern expressed by some of the Sudanese congregation that one dollar per member was not a very significant amount for each week. Pastor Phillip and a few members encouraged the rest of the congregation to try it for a few months. About 5 months later they had collected over $500.00. The members were astounded at the amount and are now ready for another round of 1-1-1. The South Sudanese congregation of St. Mark is now a mission supporting other missions. They have added their $500.00 to the $650.00 raised by the English services at St. Mark. Praise the LORD for His work through all His saints!

Please contact our District Mission Executive, Pastor  Derek Mathers   or
Pastor  Justin Laughridge , Chair of the Missions Council, with any questions.
For more information contact the English District Gift Planning Counselor: Ron Grimm by phone (412)391-4850 or email .
Worker Wellness
The LCMS has weekly devotions for church workers focusing on wellness and encouragement. If you haven't been reading them, now is a good time to start. This week's devotion can be found here .
Prayer Requests
Your prayer concerns are important to the English District. When you submit a prayer request, with your permission, it will be posted in this weekly eNewsletter. The Bible's promise is true: "If we ask anything according to his will, he hears us" (1 John 5:14).

Prayers from the Dominican Republic: We thank God that the young adult who was in the hospital with dengue in the Dominican Republic is now home, slowly but surely gaining strength, and trying to catch up with missed school work. His mother is recovering well. There are four new Globally Engaged in Outreach (GEO) missionaries in the Latin America Caribbean (LAC) field who are just settling in to their new languages, culture, and various responsibilities. We pray for strength and renewed vigor for all who are serving, so that God’s work in the mission field would not be hindered.

Please email  Holly Scheer  with your prayer requests.
