Called to Glory
Rev. Dr. Roger D. Pittelko
August 18, 1932 – November 12, 2020

The Rev. Dr. Roger D. Pittelko, Elk Grove Village, IL, was called to glory on Thursday, November 12, 2020. Pastor Pittelko served as the Bishop/President of the English District from 1987-1997. In addition, he was a professor at Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne, IN from 1998-2003 and served as the fourth Vice President of the Synod from 1998-2001. No services are planned at this time due to COVID-19. Interment will be at Trinity Prayer Garden, Villa Park, IL. We pray the Lord’s blessings on the entire Pittelko family.
The Future of Church
Science appears to be showing that one of the COVID vaccines is 90% effective. What does this mean? Does this mean that church life will return to 90% normal?

“According to a recent Barna study, Six Questions About the Future of the Hybrid Church Experience, only 41 percent of Gen Z say that when COVID is over, they want to return to primarily in-person worship; 42 percent of Millennials say they prefer primarily in-person worship. Which means, of course, that the majority don’t……Most churches are spending less than 10% of their time and budget on the very thing that will probably give them the greatest potential for the future.” - Barna Group, Nov 11, 2020

Barna Group is sharing some fresh statistics and insights to help your church and your ministry be above the national average.

Livestreamed/Recorded Services
We encourage everyone to take advantage of alternative opportunities to hear God’s word and to be blessed by the Divine Service. We have compiled a list of opportunities on the English District website that is continually updated.

If your congregation is recording or live streaming and is not included on this list, please email us at info@englishdistrict.org and let us know how people can access it.
Important Communication
About Boy Scouts of America
If your congregation or school hosted or sponsored a Boy Scouts of America (BSA) troop or event, there is the possibility that your congregation or school may also be named in the BSA bankruptcy lawsuit. If you have or have had dealings with the BSA, you should consider filing a General Proof of Claim. The deadline for filing a Proof of Claim is November 16, 2020 at 5 p.m. (Eastern Time). For more information, see here.
Qualified Charitable Distribution
In response to the pandemic, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was passed by Congress. Included in this giant relief package was a provision that waives required minimum distributions (RMDs) for 2020 from retirement accounts.

However, even though your RMD is waived, Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD) can still be made to the English District and will not be taxable to you.

Talk to your investment advisor knowing your gift will make a difference!

Thank you in advance for your support!
1-1-1 A Dollar for Missions
One Dollar - Per Member - Per Week
We are in our third season of 1-1-1!

On September 1st we began a new year of 1-1-1.. Your support has proven that many giving a little can accomplish much! One dollar per member per week over the last two years has resulted in over $100,000 in support of the identified missions.

Will you consider joining us this year as we support Campus Ministries? YOU can support them through your prayers for their ministries to grow as they share the good news of salvation by faith in Jesus Christ to the students on their campuses. Joining the 1-1-1 initiative shows a commitment to supporting our campus pastors and church workers as they continue to witness and share their heartfelt love and faith in Christ.

Contact our District Mission Executive, Pastor Derek Mathers or Pastor Justin Laughridge, Chair of the Missions Council, with any questions regarding 1-1-1.

Ministerial Health Commission
Your English District Ministerial Health Commission is here to be a confidential sister or brother in Christ, walking along side of our church workers and their families. We strive to be a listening ear with a non-judgmental heart, supporting you where you are, not where anyone thinks you should be. We will encourage, not chastise, listen without advising, and pray without ceasing for you. May God grant you the strength to reach out if and when you need it.
Prayer Requests
Your prayer concerns are important to the English District. When you submit a prayer request, with your permission, it will be posted in this weekly eNewsletter. The Bible's promise is true: "If we ask anything according to his will, he hears us" (1 John 5:14).

Pray with us! The December daily prayers are available on our website.

Email your prayer requests to Holly Scheer.

The 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade youth group, also known as The Outlet, met in late October for a special service project event. The kids created packages for shut-ins with activities to help the seniors stay busy during this time of isolation. They picked out jigsaw puzzles, crossword books, word searches, stationary and more to include in the packages and also created personalized, handmade cards.
