| | English District Welcomes New Church Workers | | | |
On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis, MO (CSL) students received their first pastoral or diaconal ministry placements, and second-year students received their vicarage or internship assignments.
Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, IN (CTSFW) held its Vicarage and Deaconess Internship Assignment Service on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, and its Assignment of Calls Service on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
During this year’s call day services, the English District was blessed to receive one pastor and four vicars. The Lord provides for His people daily.
| | Commissioning and Installation | | | |
Commissioned Candidate Carolyn Lindenmuth was commissioned and installed as Deaconess of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Albion, PA. The installation was officiated by Rev. Michael S. Taylor, pastor of Holy Trinity. Carolyn was ceremonially “pinned” by her dear friend and classmate Deaconess Beverly Walling of Falling Waters, West Virginia, a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Hagerstown, MD. The service was warmly attended by members of the congregation, along with visitors, family, and friends who gathered to celebrate this joyous occasion.
Carolyn earned her Master’s in Deaconess Studies from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN, in May 2024. Since 2017, Carolyn has faithfully served the Lutheran Church as administrative assistant across three congregations: Holy Trinity in Albion, PA, Zion Lutheran Church in Painesville, OH, and Trinity Lutheran Church in Erie, PA. She considers it a joy and privilege to serve Christ and His people in the place where God has planted her, ever mindful that “with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26

Mrs. Kathleen Vaughn was presented with the Professional Lumen Christi award for 2026. She is a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, El Cajon, CA, and serves as their Director of Youth and Children’s Ministry. Pastor James Huenink, who serves First Lutheran, says that “Kathleen has worked at First Lutheran Church for many years, beginning as a volunteer prior to being hired. Kathleen is a willing witness both in word and deed. Whether she is working in our Afternoon Blast, our new campus ministry, or teaching the children of our congregation, she is always helpful and hopeful in Christ. She is also particularly effective at putting together outreach events for children." Kathleen is a remarkable example of the professional Church workers in our English District!

Bishop Miskus very kindly shared the powerful sermon, "Blood that Cries Out," that he preached at the Toronto March for Life in May 2025. We are grateful for his submission and highly commend it to all. You may access it here.
The Canadian National March for Life will take place on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Thursday, May 14. You may find details here . The Toronto March for Life will take place in Queen's Park on Saturday, May 23. You may find details here.
Breakfast and Matins will precede both of these events at local Lutheran Church-Canada (LCC) congregations. Members of our English District congregations in Ontario are cordially invited to join with our LCC brothers and sisters at these events to peacefully and joyfully proclaim God's love for all people, from the moment of their conception into eternity. We read in Galatians 6:9, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Becoming weary is a common condition: hanging on until graduation or vacation, enduring a season of loss or losses—but in any event, we know some harvest time will be coming. The question is “What will the harvest bring?”
Paul’s admonition before harvest time is a timely reminder of the need for steadfastness with our Mission 1-1-1 weekly giving and communications.
It seems that Paul knows what human nature will do: we can become complacent when faced with the need for constancy. The answer: do not give up.
Let’s keep up the energy and enthusiasm behind Mission 1-1-1, always mindful of for Whom we are working. Colossians 3:22-23 reminds us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord…it is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

Christ Our Redeemer, Allen Park, MI
Angelica, Allen Park, MI
Twenty-six members and friends of Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and Angelica Lutheran Church joined together for Project Linus Blanket Day. Over the course of a day, the group completed 123 braided fleece blankets, donating them to children in need and in trauma. A fine luncheon was enjoyed, and new friends were made! All praise the Lord Jesus for this opportunity!
