“Exploring God’s Mission Here” is a self-study resource designed to help facilitate “tough conversations within congregations that are in challenging spots.” It seeks to address the spiritual and emotional side of those conversations while also helping to isolate the relevant facts and numbers. The Bible study includes questions to guide congregational self-appraisal, then points the congregation toward possible next steps, such as revitalization, developing partnerships, church planting/replanting, or even a blessed end. This study is designed to be led by an individual who has been prepared to serve in this role by our English District Mission Executive, Pastor Derek Mathers. If you or your congregation would like to make use of this beneficial study, please contact Pastor Mathers and he will resource your ministry to this end.

Romans 10:13 reads, ‘for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” There is a catcher in Major League Baseball. His chest protector references this very verse: Romans 10:13. He is a Christian witness in his profession.
It causes one to ask a few questions: when people see this inscription on his chest, how many know what it references? And if they know it is from the Bible, how many then inquire and explore further by looking up the verse? And then how many pursue answers after that if they don’t understand? In the first century A.D, the apostle Paul asked the same follow-up questions of his readers after having declared the truth in the promise of verse 13.
Verse 10:14 reads “how, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” This ballplayer’s testimony might seem out of context, but that is where our mission efforts come in. Our Mission 1-1-1 efforts help fulfill the realization of what this catcher and St Paul and we all know: in John 14:6, our ascended Lord says, “I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father but by me.”

All the information your congregation needs to get started in contributing to the Mission 1-1-1 ministry can be found on the district website. It is the goal of this campaign to saturate our efforts with Scripture, through where the Holy Spirit moves us.

Entering this new chapter, we carry both: 1. Go, and 2. Go with the Holy Spirit. New languages, new faces, new cultures—but we do not go alone. The Holy Spirit goes ahead of us, strengthens our words, and blesses our works.

Pastor Dan Howe and members of Trinity Lutheran Church celebrated Mother's Day with a pre-worship fellowship breakfast that included some some heavenly biscuits and sausage gravy!

Blessed Sacrament, Hayden, ID
Pastor Marcus Williams shared the good news of Christ's gracious mercy at Blessed Sacrament Lutheran Church. The congregation recently welcomed five new members through the waters of Baptism and two new communicants who recently finished their catechesis.

First, El Cajon, CA
Members of First Evangelical Lutheran Church hosted a Bible study as part of their Campus Outreach at San Diego State University. Pastor Paul Willweber, who serves Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, led the Bible study called “What is Salvation? What is Necessary for Salvation?" Fellowship and pizza were enjoyed by all.

Do you know a high school-age student who may be interested in church work someday? Please invite them to attend Vocatio: High School, a weeklong summer retreat that encourages 9th- through 12th-grade students to explore life at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, including worship and devotions, sessions with professors, and even some fun and recreation. Vocatio: High School will be held Saturday, June 20 - Friday, June 26, 2026. Registration is $300 and closes Friday, May 15!
