| | 2025 Congregational Statistics and Lay Leader Reports | | | |
This past January, we began reminding congregations to complete the annual Congregational Stats and Lay Leaders Reports. As of today, only 55% of English District congregations have reported.
Providing this information is agreed to by all LCMS congregations, as outlined in Synod Bylaws. Thank you to all of the congregations who have already honored their commitment as members of the Synod. As stated in the Bylaws, this information allows us to plan current and future ministry efforts and to lend accuracy and integrity to the Synod’s delegate representation and voting processes. Again, thank you to all congregations who have already submitted their information. For the rest of you, I encourage you to make the time today to get it done.

Pastor Just serves as part-time pastor for St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Streetsboro, Ohio. He is “officially” retired but continues to serve the church in the Streetsboro parish, at Lutheran Metropolitan Ministries in Cleveland, and as part of Healing Care Ministries International, located in Ashland, Ohio.
He is a 1973 graduate of Concordia Seminary in St. Louis (M.Div.) and holds a doctorate from Ashland (Ohio) Seminary (D. Min. in Formational Counseling, 2009). Formational Counseling involves Spirit-led therapy, Spiritual Direction, and Formational Prayer (what is sometimes referred to as Inner-Healing Prayer). He also graduated from the Pastoral Psychology Institute at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and served on its Board for three years. He has offered himself for counseling especially to area pastors and their families.
He and his wife Kristine enjoy music together (especially the Cleveland Orchestra). He would like to be an avid golfer, if only he could get his game together.

2 Corinthians 8:12 tells us, “For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.” We can likely all agree that family finances, and so perhaps church finances, are being stressed today. One of the outcomes of this situation may be guilt over what has been left undone, or perhaps never even attempted in the first place. It’s a comfort to know that the Lord sees the heart and not a ledger when he views our giving. The question really is about willingness, or, as some translations read, eagerness to give.
We know that the Holy Spirit gives even the gift of giving and the willingness to do so. But we must remain open to the Spirit’s prompting by staying in the Word and Sacraments that are offered to us in even the grace of giving. Mission 1-1-1 weekly giving should never leave behind a trail of guilt, but rather a path to freedom to respond out of thanksgiving to what we have been given.
We read in Philippians 1:6, “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

First, Kingsville, ON
Members of First Evangelical Lutheran Church hosted the 10th Annual Blessing of the Bikes. Riders from across the region gathered to celebrate the opening of the motorcycle riding season. Community partner Hogs for Hospice (H4H) was on site to welcome riders and help officially kick off the riding season. This annual event not only brings riders together in fellowship but also serves to promote awareness and safety for motorcycles on local roadways throughout the riding season.
The day began with a worship service led by fellow rider Pastor Nick Wirtz, who serves Iglesia Luterana Santa Trinidad, Tucson, AZ. Following the service, riders, and guests moved outdoors for the blessing of the bikes. Pastor Nick and volunteers also offered individual prayers for riders.
After the blessing, riders and guests enjoyed a free lunch and live entertainment, with Pastor Nick joining the band for a jam session!

St. John's, Pembroke, ON
Pastor Charles St-Onge, who serves St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, recently introduced a new church website to the congregation. He stated, "Like our English District leaders, St. John's acknowledges the importance of a good website as a communications and outreach tool." Pastor St-Onge and the congregation's Public Relations committee redid St. John's website to improve its functionality. Work is ongoing, but the site is flexible enough for the pastor and the office manager to manage updates. They hope to add a weekly podcast, regular announcements, a revamped YouTube channel, and improved social media connectivity over the coming months.

On Good Shepherd Sunday, Maeve Amelia was baptized and welcomed into the loving arms of Christ’s forgiveness. Her sponsors, parents, and congregation members rejoiced as Pastor Tim Halboth administered the Sacrament. To God be the Glory!

Due to Executive Director Rev. Dr. Matthew Heise’s upcoming retirement, the Lutheran Heritage Foundation (LHF) has begun the search for a new Executive Director.
