District Mission Action Team

Additional members needed!

Our District is seeking people who are F.A.T. (Faithful, Available, and Teachable). Do you have a passion for supporting the planting of new congregations and missions throughout our District?

Our district has a growing number of new missions starting, specifically church plants! Two in Texas, two in Pennsylvania, one in Michigan, one in California, one in Ontario, and a few other locations across North America in which seeds are being planted. With the opportunity our LCMS Office of National Missions has presented to us through the Church Planting Initiative, our district has access to a valuable resource which directly involves our Mission Action Team.

Within the Church Planting Simplified process, we start with a local Church Planting Team who leads and does the hands-on work of planting the church. Working alongside them is the Advisory Team, whose task is to guide, assist, affirm, and encourage the Church Planting Team. Members of our district advisory teams come from our District Mission Action Team.

Currently, we don’t have enough people to fill the Advisory Teams positions for our current Planting Teams, not to mention those developing. This is a wonderful opportunity to serve and is open to everyone in our District, laity or rostered.

If you are “F.A.T.” and have a passion for church planting, please contact Pastor Justin Laughridge or Pastor Derek Mathers for more information.

MinistrySafe

The LCMS Office of National Mission recommends congregations and schools of the Synod have a strategy to utilize abuse prevention resources including tools, training, and instruction in child sexual abuse safety system and obtain criminal background check services for staff and volunteers.

The Office of National Mission has identified MinistrySafe as a valuable resource for LCMS districts and congregations. MinistrySafe is a national organization that equips congregations and ministry programs to better protect children from sexual abuse.  The LCMS has a relationship with MinistrySafe that allows all LCMS congregations and schools to have access to the online MinistrySafe resources at no cost to the end-user (church, camp or school) through 2024. Visit here to learn more.

In Our Churches

Shepherd of the Mountains, Pinetop, AZ

Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church recently held its annual Everything-On-A-Stick Party and Auction. Over 40 participants enjoyed a variety of foods that included pork chops, salad, and candy bars…all served on sticks, skewers and spears in place of traditional flatware. This event put the “fun” in fundraising, yielding $1800 from the innovative idea that included a basket raffle. By far the favorite were grapes that were skewered, then soaked in champagne, frozen, and enjoyed as a refreshing dessert.

VBS season is upon us! Be sure to share photos of how your church is teaching our little ones about Jesus. Don't be shy about sharing the good works you are doing in His name.

Send pictures and stories for consideration to llinthicum@englishdistrict.org by Wednesday at 12:00 noon ET.
