Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Grace, mercy, and peace to you from God our Father and from our Lord Jesus Christ.
With great joy and an eager desire to serve, I have accepted God’s call to be President/Bishop of the English District. I give thanks to our gracious Lord Jesus Christ who has been preparing me for this calling for many years. I pray that His Holy Spirit continues to give me all the gifts needed to care for His Church. I request your prayers for myself, my family, and my congregation.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the “Walkout” at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, which culminated in the “Seminex era” split within The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). As I noted in The English District Saga: A Niche in the History of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in North America, this was a time of both a major change in trajectory in the life of the LCMS and English District, a “Battle of the Bible” over doctrine and faith, and a very painful time for many families and friends who became divided.

Norval Merlin Chilman
Nov 17, 1938 - Jan 20, 2024
A military funeral was held for Mr. Norval Chilman who now rests in the arms of our Savior. Mr. Chilman served in the United States Navy before faithfully serving Peace Lutheran Church of the Desert for 17 years. Peace Lutheran's pastor, Rev. James Bowes, also a Navy veteran, officiated.
Please keep the Chilman family in your prayers.
