Convention Youth Delegate Highlights
God truly blessed the district, sending fifteen youth delegates from Canada and the USA to the 57th English District Convention for a unique experience formatted similarly to a Lutheran camp retreat.

The theme verse for the youth was Ephesians 4: 2-3 - Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

The youth participated in activities that included ice breakers, spiritual building, and living out their faith,

We began our time together with a couple of ice breakers: Good Cop/Bad Cop and Speed Dating. The youth had four sessions of 90 seconds each to ask each other questions to get to know one another.

Spiritual Building started with attending the convention opening worship service with communion. We also had three 90-minute sessions centered on different topics. The first session was on relationships with others and what it takes to have a good relationship with God. We asked them what they thought a good relationship looks like, and then asked how many of them treat God that way? Next, my cohort Jacob took the youth through a Bible study on 1 Timothy 4. The second session was a discussion about how to write a devotion, and we had the youth write and share their devotions. In the third session we talked about how to take what you learned back to your church.

Scripture says faith without works is dead so for the session on Living out our Faith, the youth went to Angelica Lutheran Church in Allen Park, Michigan, to serve for an afternoon. The youth helped trustees prepare for their 75th anniversary celebration, replaced cardboard ceiling tiles, sprayed off a courtyard, and cleared sidewalks of weeds in 103 degree heat. They also made a shut-in call to an active and vibrant ninety-four-year-old woman who told the youth to read their Bible and not worry if it does not apply at the time when reading it.

We thank Pastor Jonathan Sachs for allowing us to serve at his church. We were very blessed by the opportunity. After all the work, we stopped at Culver’s to cool off with refreshments and then enjoyed games and pizza at a Funplex.

A couple of youth shared their devotions with the convention assembly during morning devotions. And as follow up, the youth were asked to write about their convention experience, and 50% responded and truly enjoyed their time as youth delegates. These were awesome young people with hopes and dreams for the future and a passion for Christ.

Thank you to Jacob Garrison, a seminarian from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, and proudly, one of my former youths, for guiding the youth at convention.

To His Glory,
DCE Rod Lane

Peace in the Valley, Benson, AZ

Meeting and greeting their neighbors with smiles, love, Bibles, and information about their beautiful church family, Peace in the Valley Lutheran Church began this weekly ministry in June 2022. They have met some wonderful people. They have prayed with neighbors, have had new friends come to worship service, and have had people contact the pastor, Rev. Ron York.
Eternal Life, Mesa, AZ
In June, the congregation shared in the joy with Paul and Briahna in celebrating the first wedding in the congregation in almost five years.
On July 10, the family of God increased with the Rite of Holy Baptism for little Charles, along with the transfer of Andrew, and newlyweds, Paul and Briahna. Praise be to God.
