Living Our Baptized Life in Christ
Galatians 2:20
| | Bishop's Farewell Service | | | Before becoming the Bishop of the English District, Rev. Jeff Miskus was called to The Church of St. Mark Lutheran, Mississauga, ON. He served that congregation for over 25 years. Approximately 175 people attended a service followed by fellowship at St. Mark's. It was a glorious day full of thanksgiving to God for all the memories and joys of sharing the gospel. Members wished Bishop Miskus God's Blessings as he continues his ministry in the English District. | | Bolick Foundation Campus Ministry Opportunity | | | |
Thanks to a grant from the Bolick Foundation, the English District has $25,000 in funding available for use in specifically enhancing, extending, or expanding Campus Ministry and Mission, focusing on international students.
The mission of the Bolick Foundation is to advocate for many causes but concentrating on spreading the Christian gospel.
It is often easier and less complicated to focus ministry on those who already share our beliefs. We easily approach those who are either members of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, those who ascribe to Lutheranism in general, or those who confess Christ in a broader understanding. Yet, the call of God’s mission is to strengthen and to gather; that includes those beyond our Confession.
God brings together students from many nations: those who are Christian, those who are open to, or at least tolerant of, the Christian faith, and others who fall into neither of those categories. A unique aspect of the Campus Ministry and Mission context is that God brings us into connection with these international students. This provides opportunities to build relationships and opens moments to invite these students into Word and Sacrament ministry. It is our desire to provide Word and Sacrament ministry to create and strengthen the faith in the university or college context, through the hearing of God’s Word and witnessing His gifts. As a new academic year begins, every one of our recognized English District Campus Ministries is invited to apply for a portion of the Bolick Foundation grant. To apply for the funds, please include, along with your email, the name and contact information of the English District ministry applying for the funds Also include a detailed description of how the funds will be used to enhance, extend, or expand Campus Ministry and Mission in the context of focusing on international students.
The deadline is Friday, November 28, 2025. We are excited to see what develops from this opportunity and ask for continued prayers. Look for updates in future issues of Servant to Servant. Direct questions to Pastor Derek Mathers via email.

Do you know an educator who might be interested in teacher colloquy?
A free Teacher Colloquy Webinar will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 7–8 p.m. (CDT) to go over the process, requirements and benefits of becoming rostered as an LCMS Minister of Religion—Commissioned. The webinar, brought to you by Set Apart to Serve, will be hosted by the Rev. Dr. Paul Philp, executive director of Concordia University Education Network (CUEnet), and Wendi Murphy, CUEnet office operations manager and registrar.
You are encouraged to invite non-rostered LCMS teachers to attend the webinar, which will cover many topics, such as common questions and myths about colloquy; real colloquy stories; a walk-through of the requirements, coursework, timing and financial aid; and the next steps for those who are ready to begin the process.
Interested teachers can register here for the live Zoom webinar. The webinar will be recorded and available for on-demand viewing. Teacher colloquy is a great way for educators who attended a non-LCMS college or university to gain robust theological grounding and roster status.

What does it take for us to remember something?
Do we leave it in the same place every time, so that it’s easily found when we need it next?
Do we keep things together that belong and are used together, so that they aren’t scattered and we aren’t scrambling the next time?
In both cases, a positive intent is involved in how we remember.
It is well for us always to remember how our Lord remembers:
-
For I will forgive their wickedness and remember their sins no more. Jeremiah 31:34
-
See! I have engraved you in the palms of my hands; your wails are ever before me. Isaiah 49:16
Maybe it is that our names are engraved under the nail prints that our sins placed on His palms. Perhaps we would do better to remember a dollar every week for 1-1-1 Dollar for Missions when we remember the grace to which our actions are responding.
More Scripture and messages for Mission 1-1-1 are available on the district website. Please consider using this resource as a way to build up the visibility and awareness in your congregation.

Grace, Redford, MI
Pastor Timothy Halboth and members of Grace Lutheran Church rejoiced in the new birth in baptism of Madison. Madison has been confined to a wheelchair her entire life but nothing stops her. God moved her to faith. May the Lord of the church bless her and her family!

Also at Grace Lutheran Church, Carter and little Marley were brought into the Family of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. Pictured with Pastor Timothy Halboth are Carter and Marley's parents who were also baptized by Pastor Halboth when they were infants. This was truly a joyous day for the family and the congregation!
