Bishop's Visitation

Bishop Jamison Hardy was blessed to worship with the saints at the Midwest Fall Regional Pastors Conference.
Bishop Rev. Dr. Jamison Hardy shared his report with district church workers at the Midwest regional in St. Louis, MO. Speaking on Leadership styles, he encouraged all to grow in servant leadership which influences rather than dictates.
Welcome to the English District!
It was a wonderful day in the Lord as the District welcomed Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in North Royalton, Ohio. We give thanks to God for the addition of a new congregation into our district of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod. Bishop Hardy was pleased to be able to attend the service to welcome them.

1-1-1 for Missions
“There is power and strength in many giving a little!”

September 1, 2018- September 1, 2019. A year that hopefully will be remembered! Why? This was the first “model year” of “A Dollar for Missions!” The English District is showing what can be done when our congregations, YOU our people, are encouraged to gather a little for a GREAT/unified* goal. So how did we do after one year? $54,578.73 extra was gathered! Praise God for this! The two missions (Concordia Lutheran Mission in Myerstown, PA and the Dominican Republic Lutheran Mission) selected  to receive funds from 1-1-1 will each receive approximately $27,275.

Dear people of God, what the English District is doing is still only a “model.” We were to show the others this could be done. From the very beginning it was our hope that other districts of the LCMS would follow the “model.” The LCMS in National Convention passed the resolution from our English District to encourage others to do the same! The “model” is growing! As more participate the dollars also grow. Thanks to all of our congregations and people giving that extra $1 a week! Join us! It matters!

Where will this “model” go? We SHOULD DREAM BIG! What if, while praying for workers, we earnestly recruit and fully fund the training and education of seminarians, teachers, missionaries, and then send workers into the harvest field that our Lord is preparing? Seeking the lost! Rejoicing over the found! You know what that means? More believers! More churches! More joy, here on earth and in Heaven! From this Sunday's Gospel, Jesus says, “I tell you, there is joy before  the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Please contact our District Mission Executive, Pastor  Derek Mathers   or
Pastor  Justin Laughridge , Chair of the Missions Council, with any questions.
For more information contact the English District Gift Planning Counselor: Ron Grimm by phone (412) 391-4850 or email .
Worker Wellness
The LCMS has weekly devotions for church workers focusing on wellness and encouragement. If you haven't been reading them, now is a good time to start! This week's devotion can be found here .
Christ Academy College
Did you know Christ Academy College is FREE? This weekend retreat at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, IN, is free and introduces college aged people who are interested in church work to the campus and programs there. For more information, visit their website.
Prayer Requests
Your prayer concerns are important to the English District. When you submit a prayer request, it will be posted in this weekly eNewsletter. The Bible's promise is true: "If we ask anything according to his will, he hears us" (1 John 5:14).

Pray with us: That God would protect and grant restored health for missionaries serving in the Dominican Republic and Latin America. The wife of one missionary in the DR was in the hospital for a week with dengue, and now their teenage son is in the hospital with dengue. Many others in the field have recently experienced viruses, headaches, falling, and even car accidents. We pray for strength and renewed vigor for all who are serving, so that God’s work in the mission field would not be hindered.

Please email  Holly Scheer  with your prayer requests.

Krey Family Update
Rev. Krey shared this from the last week in the Dominican Republic:

Yesterday was a wonderful day on the mission field in the Dominican Republic. One of those memorable days that you will cherish for years to come, as we celebrated the ordination and installation of Yban Navarro, at Lamb of God Lutheran Church, in Licey. He is our third pastor to be ordained here in the Dominican, the first being Pastor Willy Gaspar, who serves at Friends of Christ Lutheran Church in Las Americas, and the second, Idjon Fritz, who serves at the Lutheran church and school in Palmar Arriba. Please keep Yban,   his wife Marta, and their two daughters,  in prayer as he begins serving as a shepherd for Lamb of God Lutheran Church, and also two mission plants in nearby towns. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
