Divine Calls
Call Received

Rev. Dr. Mark A. Wood, Synod Executive Staff, St. Louis, MO, has received a call to serve Trinity, Ocala, FL.
1-1-1 for Missions

Members of Trinity Lutheran Church, Villa Park IL, line up to give to the 1-1-1 missions program.

The top 5 reasons for giving (overheard on site):
1. It's so EASY!
2. It helps my children learn to help others.
3. Almost everyone has at least one dollar to give.
4. It makes my heart happy.
5. Having the 1-1-1 box there every week serves as a constant reminder of our missions.

For a current list of participating congregations and to see what congregations in your region are supporting 1-1-1, click here .

Please contact our District Mission Executive, Pastor  Derek Mathers   or
Pastor  Justin Laughridge , Chair of the Missions Council, with any questions.
Please be aware of a scam that is affecting English District pastors in Wisconsin, Ohio and other clergy. Someone is compromising church and pastor’s accounts to access their contacts. An email or text message is sent using the pastor or church name (but with a different email/phone number) asking people to buy eBay or other gift cards as a fundraiser to help a patient or familiar charity.
Please never follow someone’s instructions to purchase gift cards and send the PIN# by voice, text or any other means of communication without checking directly with the person you supposedly receive the written request from. (Do not reply to the email or message you received to confirm. Start a new text or email to the person requesting the funds.)

Seminary Update
Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, IN welcomes a new faculty member this year: the Rev. Prof. Adam Koontz, who began his service as Assistant Professor of Exegetical Theology on August 1st. Prior to taking this position Pastor Koontz served the English District as pastor at Mount Calvary in Lititz, PA, during which time he planted Concordia Lutheran Mission in Myerstown, PA.

Prof. Koontz will teach courses related to the New Testament, beginning with Gospels 1 and Greek readings. In the winter and spring quarters, he will teach lecture courses on Paul, his specialty. “The faculty is very excited to welcome Rev. Koontz to our midst,” said Academic Dean, the Rev. Dr. Charles A. Gieschen. “He brings both expertise in the Pauline Epistles and fine recent pastoral experience that will be a blessing to our students. He’ll also,” Dr. Gieschen added, “bring down the average age of the faculty.”
Prayer Requests
Your prayer concerns are important to the English District. When you submit a prayer request, it will be posted in this weekly eNewsletter. The Bible's promise is true: "If we ask anything according to his will, he hears us" (1 John 5:14).

Please email  Holly Scheer  with your prayer requests.
