Preaching Text: Matthew 16:13-20

The message this week: Built on solid rock. We love this image of Christ as our rock and foundation. But what happens when a person (Peter) is the rock on which the church is built? Is Jesus saying Peter is that strong or is Jesus suggesting something else? Let's explore together this weekend.

Holy and mighty God, we can't imagine the ground beneath us is anything but solid rock until it starts to tremble. Help us to see and know that You are our solid ground.

3rd St will be closed this Sunday for the Geneva Concours car show. The church parking lot on Franklin St will be reserved for those attending worship and is accessible from 1st St. Please allow extra time for parking.

• Strengthen and encourage your faithful people everywhere they gather, that they boldly proclaim your word of life to all the world.
• Sustain and nourish your creation. Teach us to be wise stewards of all you have made.
• Come to the aid of nations experiencing war, conflict, disease, famine, and disaster. Guide the work of relief agencies and peacemaking organizations.
• Be present among all who struggle with addiction, housing insecurity, incarceration, and mental illness, that they know they are not alone. Hear our prayers for all in need this day.
• Lift up the many and varied gifts and talents of this congregation and strengthen the bonds of fellowship that all may be united as the body of Christ.
• We give thanks for the faithful who died in the hope of this promise. Strengthen us in faith until the day we join them at your eternal banquet.

Receive our prayers and answer, O God, as you have promised. All this we ask in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We surround with our prayers the family of Glen (Doug) Summers, son of Arlene Donovan, who died last Sunday. A funeral will be held at Malone's Funeral Home on Friday, August 21 at 11AM. Visitation to preceed at 9AM.

Rough times can and do look different for each of us, and can often lead to feelings of loneliness, discouragement, anxiety, and sadness. A GLC Stephen Minister will, with God’s grace and guidance, walk with you through those rough times with an empathetic ear, non-judgemental confidentiality, and an open heart. Please reach out to Pastor Trudy or any of us wearing a Stephen Minister name tag if you, or someone you know could use the help a Stephen Minister can offer.

A huge thank you to all of the volunteers that particapted in Project Day last weekend! We accomplished many tasks with your help: from sharpening pencils, to painting the Associate Pastor's office, to scrubbing the stair wells and kitchen cabinets, and so much more! The day was a huge success because of your generosity.
