An Ocean Away, United in Resilience

Supporting Lahaina’s wildfire recovery.

Lahaina and Los Angeles share a powerful bond: both are vibrant communities rebuilding after devastating wildfires. This spring, Habitat LA partnered with Habitat for Humanity Maui, to support recovery efforts following the 2023 Lahaina wildfires.

The trip brought together a team of 31 volunteers who showed up to paint walls, lay tile, and install drywall and flooring. Every project completed helps local families move one step closer to coming home.

As we celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month this May, we’re proud to recognize the volunteers who made it happen — including former NBA player Wally Rank and former NFL player Jesse Sapolu — as well as Habitat LA Board members, Board Emeritus members, major donors, and the Habitat LA team.

We’re honored to have played a small part in this recovery journey. The experience was both humbling and deeply inspiring as we continue helping survivors here at home rebuild after the 2025 Los Angeles fires.

Answering the Call

Active-duty Sea Services volunteers give back to LA.

LA Fleet Week is an annual celebration of America’s Sea Services which includes demonstrations, tours, and community engagement opportunities. During a two-day event, Habitat LA partnered with active-duty Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard members for our Habitat for Heroes Fleet Week Build.

This year, Navy and Marine Corps volunteers joined Habitat LA staff at our Orange Avenue development in Long Beach. The energy on-site was electric thanks to the collective dedication of our honored volunteers. Together, we made meaningful progress toward making affordable housing a reality for families in Los Angeles. We thank them for their service both in uniform and in the community!

Preparing Today Protects Your Tomorrow

Help safeguard your home this wildfire season.

May is also National Wildfire Awareness Month, a reminder that California’s wildfire season just around the corner.

While not every wildfire can be prevented, there are steps you can take to better protect your home. Simple actions like clearing debris from your roof and yard and sealing areas where embers can enter can make a big difference. Taking proactive steps today can help prevent major loss tomorrow.

Preserve Your Home with Habitat LA

Greater safety and comfort through home repair.

National Home Improvement Month is the perfect time to make your home safer and more comfortable. For many older adults, however, needed repairs can feel financially out of reach.

Through Habitat LA’s Older Adults Home Modification Program, we partner with occupational therapists and homeowners to create personalized home modification plans that are both affordable and accessible. Past projects have included wall repairs, walk-in showers, grab bars, and electric ramp installations.

These improvements help homeowners move through their home with greater confidence while enhancing safety and quality of life.

Wine and Connection with Purpose

Raise the Roof fuels community and impact.

On May 17, 140 guests gathered in Long Beach for a delightful afternoon of curated wines, food, fellowship, and fundraising.

The event — hosted by Habitat LA and the Long Beach Faith Coalition — raised a new record of over $80,000, which will directly advance the construction of new homes in our Palmer Court development.

Thank you to all our donors and supporters. Your contribution not only expands access to safe and affordable housing in the community but will also directly impact the lives of seven local families.
