Men's Health Month – June 2026
Observed each June, Men's Health Month encourages men and boys to prioritize their physical and mental well-being. Because men are less likely to seek routine medical care, the month serves as an important reminder to schedule preventive screenings, address health concerns early, and take proactive steps toward a healthier future.
Why Men's Health Matters
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), men in the United States live an average of five years fewer than women and experience higher mortality rates from the nation's leading causes of death:
- Heart disease
- Cancer
- Unintentional injuries
Preventive care and early detection can significantly improve health outcomes and quality of life.
Key Areas of Focus
Preventive Care and Screenings
Establishing a relationship with a primary care provider and scheduling annual wellness visits are essential steps toward maintaining good health. Recommended preventive services include:
- Annual physical exam and routine blood work
- Annual eye exam
- Annual dental exam
- Blood pressure screening
- Cholesterol screening
- Type 2 diabetes screening
- Colorectal cancer screening (beginning at age 45)
- Age-appropriate urological evaluations
Cancer Awareness
Regular screenings and self-examinations can help detect cancer early, when treatment is often most effective. Men should discuss their individual risk factors with their healthcare provider and stay informed about screenings for prostate, testicular, and colorectal cancers. Performing regular testicular self-exams are vital to early detection.
Heart Health
Heart disease remains a leading health concern for men. Monitoring blood pressure, cholesterol levels, weight, and diabetes risk factors can help reduce the likelihood of serious cardiovascular conditions.
Mental Health
Mental well-being is just as important as physical health. Men are often less likely to seek help for emotional or mental health concerns, making awareness and early intervention especially important. Recognizing warning signs and seeking support when needed can make a meaningful difference.
