Letter from the Assistant Director
Dear East Providence Library Community,
Happy May! Get ready for a month of fun, learning, and community engagement at the Library.
If you like adorable baby animals, you will want to stop by the Children’s Room at Weaver Library. Last week, Casey Farm set up an incubator of twelve Dominique chicken eggs. They are scheduled to start hatching on May 6, and we will keep them in a chicken coop for about a week. Be sure to visit these fluffy fuzzballs, and watch them waddle around the coop pecking at anything they can find.
Thank you to everyone who shopped at our April Book Sale. We are very thankful for your support! Our volunteer Friends of the Library group reported that it was one of their most successful spring book sales ever.
This month we will come together, on the Weaver Library lawn, to honor and celebrate the Weaver Copper Beech Tree which was recognized by the Rhode Island Tree Council, in 2021, as one of the biggest of its kind in RI. Although many efforts were taken to protect and revitalize the health of this tree, the tree is, unfortunately, nearing the end of its life. On the evening of May 5, we will welcome arborist Matthew “Twig” Largess and Mayor Bob DaSilva to speak of the historical and cultural importance of our Copper Beech. This program will begin with a Maypole ribbon dance to celebrate the tree and the arrival of spring. All ages are welcome.
Join us during May for this, and much more!
See you at the library!
Pam Schwieger
Assistant Library Director
