Letter from the Assistant Director
Dear East Providence Library Community,
April 6-12, 2025 is National Library Week!
This National Library Week, take time to rediscover the library and see how it draws us together as a community. Whether you're visiting for books, resources, or a place to connect, East Providence Public Library is here for you.
First celebrated in 1958, National Library Week is an annual celebration, sponsored by the American Library Association, highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening communities.
At East Providence Public Library, we invite the community to join the celebration! Whether you're a longtime patron or haven’t visited in a while, now is the perfect time to explore all the library has to offer. Our library provides a diverse collection of popular and informative books in print and digital formats, free Wi-Fi, research assistance, one-on-one tech help appointments, English & citizenship classes, genealogy assistance, a Library of Things, digital EPHS yearbooks going back to 1918, educational and entertaining programs for kids, teens, and adults, and much much more - all ensuring that everyone has access to resources that educate, inspire, and connect.
National Library Week is a time to celebrate the many ways libraries bring people together, spark imagination, and support lifelong learning. However, on March 14, President Trump issued an executive order to eliminate the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the federal agency dedicated to funding library services. The loss of federal library support will put all of our services at risk and have an enormous impact on communities nationwide.
We need library supporters to make their voices heard. Please call or write to your members of Congress and urge them to protect federal funding for libraries by preventing the dismantling of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). For more information about this executive order, and what you can do to support libraries, click here.
Thank you for your continued support of the library! Happy National Library Week!
Pam Schwieger
Assistant Library Director
