Holy Week

Dear Friends,

It has been said that those who walk the path of nonviolent justice are the most likely to die by violent injustice.

The King Center for Nonviolent Social Change states:

Nonviolence Is a Way of Life for Courageous People. It is not a method for cowards; it does resist. It is active nonviolent resistance to evil. Nonviolence is a love-centered way of thinking, speaking, acting, and engaging that leads to personal, cultural and societal transformation.

Jesus planned his Palm Sunday procession as a deliberate statement to the power of Rome and those religious leaders who collaborated with its regime. He knew he would be killed and he walked towards his fate with bravery and awareness. To walk through Holy Week is to walk with Jesus as he confronts a kingdom of domination and injustice with God's Kingdom of justice and peace. Every act, from overturning the tables in the Temple, to washing his disciples feet, by refusing to argue with Pilate and forgiving from the Cross, demonstrates for us 'The Way'. It culminates on Easter Sunday with the glorious triumph over evil and death in the form of Resurrection. Love wins.

I invite you to walk through Holy Week at Grace beginning with Palm Sunday. If you have the time, read Mark's Gospel as your Holy Week reflection. It is only 16 chapters long. Or even start at Chapter 11 where Jesus enters Jerusalem. This is the most important week in the life of the Christian Church and it is where we truly see what it means to witness God among us, with us and for us.

May this journey with Jesus speak to you: heart, mind and soul.
