Dear friends
Happy Thanksgiving!
This week, I had the opportunity to do my very first funeral service for a 97 year old lady who lived in the community. After speaking to her children and learning about her amazingly long life, I selected Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 to be read during her funeral. The passage talks about there being a season and a time for every matter under heaven.
I thought that this was really apt for us in particular having experienced the deaths and funerals of some of our prominent church members over the last few weeks leading up to Thanksgiving. The passage continues: there is a time to born and a time to die, a time to love and a time for peace. I think moving forward, this is our time to give thanks, and a time for us as a congregation to recuperate, looking forward to the seasons of Advent and anticipating a new year ahead.
I was moved by the outpouring of love and support at each service I volunteered at and it was an eye-opener for me as a new clergyperson to encounter. I am honoured to serve alongside each and every one of you and hope to learn from all of you when it comes to community building and cherishing our friends in community.
Best,
Rev Ollie
