SPREADING THE GOOD NEWS

Making it Count...

For the men of Project Cornerstone learning such life skills as handling money is key to building self-sufficiency and self-determination. As we address core causes of homelessness and eliminate barriers to employment and permanent housing, our guests take on classes to help foster a new mindset and gain lifelong skills and tools.

Knowledge is the key piece” said Alisa Dunn, Financial Wellbeing Coach at Operation Hope. Dunn visits Samaritan every month to discuss financial literacy amongst the Cornerstone men. Offering one-on one sessions, Dunn discusses how to manage money, build credit, and how to maintain financial freedom.

Kenneth Koontz, Project Cornerstone Supportive Services Counselor describes the financial sessions as an essential need for the men to practice in order to transition back into societal norms. “A lot of the men who enter the program have no financial means or reserves. It’s important for the guys to gain some insight onto how to manage their financial resources.” – K. Koontz

Providing resources gives a sense of hope and new beginnings. We are grateful for our community collaborations to help support the overall wellbeing of our guests.

Together, we can make a difference in lives of our brothers and sisters in need.

Now he who supplies seed to the Sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.” – 2 Corinthians 9:10

ANNOUNCEMENTS

We are thrilled to share the good news…we have reopened the dining room at Samaritan! Our lunch guests will now have the option to dine-in or continue to receive our to-go style meals.

Hunger hasn’t stopped for COVID-19, and we have remained fully committed to serving our guests throughout the pandemic. Volunteers are the heart-beat of the Ministry and help deliver a message of hope along with a warm meal to our guests each day of the year." - Jan Kelly

To help us celebrate, we are encouraging folks to help #PassThePlate by signing up to come volunteer with us. We are looking for 12 volunteers (individuals or groups) to help prepare and serve lunches for our hungry neighbors or 2 volunteers to help serve dinner to our shelter guests. SPOTLIGHT

Special thank you to the wonderful nursing students at Winston-Salem State University for their love of service.

"We appreciate the opportunity to learn more about Samaritan Ministries' commitment to the community. Our motto here at WSSU is 'Enter to Learn, Depart to Serve.'"- Joanna Hargis RN, MSN, Assistant Clinical Professor at Winston-Salem State University

The clinical experience of the Division of Nursing at WSSU allows the nursing students to demonstrate integration of theory to practice. The objective of this clinical experience is to acquaint the nursing students to alternative resources for Mental Health in the community.

We are thankful for the amount of helping hands from our student volunteers. Thank you for choosing Samaritan to make an impact in the lives of our neighbors in need.
