Honoring Their Service

Purple Heart recipient Alvin Ricker, 97, attended the unveiling of Hartford's new granite memorial honoring WWI and WWII veterans. The former infantryman saw action in Germany in 1944-1945. Born in Wilder, Ricker lives in Hartford. He drove a school bus and did maintenance for the district from the early 1950s to 1985. "He was a general parent to all the students who went through the school," said his son Allyn. Produced by JAM's Rick Russell

Lebanon salutes 2024 graduates

They started high school in pandemic lockdown. Four years later, rain couldn't dampen the spirits of the Lebanon High School class of 2024 as they thanked their parents, teachers and classmates for support, remembered challenges overcome on their journey to this momentous day, and prepare for the big changes ahead.

Produced by Chico Eastridge, Charlie Rose, Maeve Littau, and Drew Boyce for JAM.

Climate Champs

"Compost—Nature's Climate Champion" was the theme of this year's VT Organics Recycling Summit. Soil health expert Dr. Sally Brown of the University of Washington delivered the keynote address at the Waterbury event. Brown praised a 2020 state law that banned food scraps from state landfills. "Climate change has hit VT....but you guys have travelled at warp speed," she said.

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT @JAM

View Public Meetings

This week's civic highlight: Look for "Hometown Heroes" banners to adorn Hartford lamp posts this summer following a 5-2 Selectboard vote last week to create a policy governing banner size and duration of their display. The "Heroes" banners will honor veterans and first responders.

Tune into government and school meetings LIVE on JAM cable channels 1075/1085 (Comcast) or 169/170 VTEL, streaming on our website, or JAM's YouTube channel, or find recordings by searching JAM On-Demand for your town's meeting recordings.
