Session “Kicks Off” Its Busy Phase

This week, Senate President Bill Ferguson noted that the rapidly-growing bill lists and committee workloads “kicks off the real first day of the 2020 session.” The signs are everywhere. Committee hearings running into evening hours, stakeholders and bill drafters scrambling to make deadlines, lively floor debates (including video coverage in the House!) – all hallmarks that the 2020 Session is indeed in full swing. MACo’s Legislative Committee will continue guiding county policy priorities through the weeks ahead, as the flood of legislative proposals is just around the corner. Buckle up!

Corporate Partner Corner

MACo's Gold Corporate Partner Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Beverage Association, a member of the American Beverage Association, is working to promote the Every Bottle Back initiative, an unprecedented commitment by America's beverage companies to reduce their plastic footprint.

Our plastic bottles are made to be remade. We are carefully designing them to be 100% recyclable – even the caps. Our goal is for every bottle to become a new bottle, and not end up in oceans, rivers, beaches and landfills. And that means we are using less new plastic.

That’s why America’s beverage companies have launched a new initiative to get Every Bottle Back. This unprecedented commitment includes:

  • Working with World Wildlife Fund through their ReSource: Plastic to reduce our plastic footprint.
  • Partnering with The Recycling Partnership and Closed Loop Partners to modernize the recycling infrastructure in communities across the country.
  • Increasing awareness about the value of our 100% recyclable plastic bottles.
  • Introducing voluntary messaging on packages about our 100% recyclable plastic bottles and caps.
