UPDATES FROM THE FLORIDA CAPITOL

This week marks the halfway point for the regularly scheduled 2021 Legislative Session. The House and Senate released their individual budgets late last week, keeping on track for passage in each chamber in Week 6, with the budget conference starting immediately thereafter. The budgets released did not contemplate the $9 billion in federal funding coming to the state in the coming months. There will still be a lot to discuss on that front. FRA is currently monitoring several bills as they relate to key areas of redevelopment practice. Such areas include affordable housing, building design and impact fees. We will keep you updated on these proposed changes as we move throughout the session. Visit MyFRA's legislative page to learn more about each bill.

SUBMIT AN AWARD ENTRY TODAY The clock is ticking! The application window for the 2021 FRA Awards program is now open. This year's categories include cultural enhancement, outstanding housing, transportation and transit enhancements and more. The deadline to submit an entry is June 7, so we encourage you to start planning now. To learn more about the awards program or to submit an entry, click here. AWARD SPOTLIGHT: OUTSTANDING REHABILITATION, RENOVATION OR REUSE PROJECT Congratulations to the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency for winning the 2020 Outstanding Rehabilitation, Renovation or Reuse Project Award for a small community! The Southeast Overtown/Park West CRA partnered with Marcus Samuelsson Development Group, LLC on the project, Red Rooster Overtown. Together they transformed an under-utilized structure into a destination restaurant and entertainment venue. This project brings to light Overtown’s entertainment roots and its emerging culture and entertainment in the district. Congratulations, Southeast Overtown/Park West CRA! THE LATEST RFPS AND RFQS Legal Services - Riviera Beach CRA The Riviera Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (the “RBCRA”) seeks a qualified attorney or law firm interested in providing legal services to the RBCRA, as its General Counsel. The General Counsel will provide legal advice on a variety of legal matters, including but not limited to, legal advice during meetings of the RBCRA Board of Commissioners, its committees or task forces, contract negotiations, drafting and reviewing development agreements, managing real estate transactions, etc. For more information, read the full request here.
