Northern California Pirate Festival

The 8th annual Northern California Pirate Festival sails into port Father's Day Weekend, June 14 & 15 at the Vallejo Waterfront Park next to the Vallejo Ferry Terminal. Debuting an expanded layout and new shows, the Bay Area's only pirate festival is a fully immersive, 360 degree pirate paradise with ship-to-shore cannon battles, winding lanes of colorful stalls, singing pirates, rum bars, gourmet grub, and a School of Piracy and costume competition for the wee swashbucklers. The Northern California Pirate Festival's newly expanded layout includes over three acres of winding lanes, pirate encampments, waterfront games, a dedicated children's area and the Sirens Lagoon with it's 1,000 gallon glass sided tank where mermaids can be witnessed swimming underwater.

A new addition to the non-stop action is a second ship-to-shore cannon battle now at 1 pm and 3 pm each day. The Nehemiah, a 57 ft. British Naval ship, sails alongside the festival's waterfront with black powder muskets and cannons booming as the Brotherhood of Oceanic Mercenaries (B.O.O.M.) return fire from shore. Will the pirates repel the invasion? Each encounter offers a different ending. Also new this year is The House of the Rising Sun, a colorful and raucous establishment where dancing girls and gambling miscreants invite passersby to try their hand at a game of cards or dice. And to celebrate "The Year of the Pirate" festival organizers auditioned actors and pirate enthusiasts to portray famous pirates from throughout history including the notorious Blackbeard and Anne Bonny as well as local favorites the ghostly and ghoulish Pirates of Emerson. On Saturday night the festival will host the Buccaneers Bash, a separate ticketed, adult only party featuring rock bands and a pirate themed burlesque show.

With four stages of continuous entertainment, this year the festival will premiere Bob Bartley and his macaw Gypsy in Fowl Tales, San Francisco based pirate rock band Boarding Party, and Plank and Plunder, an interactive show of sea shanties and sword fights for the younger scallywags. Returning favorites include the Dread Crew of Oddwood, a pirate themed band that blends Heavy Metal, Celtic Folk and Progressive Rock, Skip Henderson and Starboard Watch whose music was featured in Disney's Pirates of The Caribbean movies, award winning magician Jack Spareribs, master swordfighters The Court of the Pirate Lords, and children's recording artist Mister Mac.
