Students from various schools in the Rochester City School District will have the opportunity to show off their talents this weekend. On Friday, June 10 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 11 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m, Disney’s MOANA JR. will be performed at the East High School Auditorium. The 60-minute musical adventure, designed for middle school-aged performers, is based on the 2016 Disney film Moana. The ROC City Players cast includes 50 students led by Eric Williamson, Taylor Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Eli Artman, Teena Artman, Kelly Follman, Scott Pickard, and Dominic Pickard.
“This sensational group of young people never ceases to amaze me with their positive energy, infectious humor, and incredible talent,” said Director Eric Williamson. “They teach me more than I could ever teach them and together we have grown so much. We cannot wait for people to see our show.”
Adapted for young performers, this musical includes favorite songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina, such as “How Far I’ll Go,” “Shiny,” and “You’re Welcome.” With its empowering message of bravery, MOANA JR. is sure to awaken your inner hero!
While tickets to this show are free, donations will be accepted.
ROC CITY PLAYERS (RCP) was founded in 2017 by Dominic Pickard and Taylor Johnson. It services students throughout the RCSD who want to create magic on stage. With a dedicated crew of adults, students, and families, six different musicals have been produced, leaving audiences captivated and engaged. RCP produces two shows each school year; previous performances include Beauty and the Beast, Once On This Island, Shrek, Frozen, Willy Wonka, and High School Musical.
Disney's MOANA JR. is presented through special arragement with Music Theatre International New York, who also provides all the material.
