Kailua Village Business Improvement District Announces 2018 Events
Village Happenings Promote Economic and Social Vibrancy
Historic Kailua Village, Kona, HI 11-29-17 ~ Special events in Historic Kailua Village bring residents and visitors together to celebrate the special attributes of this seaside village. There is no better place to meet old friends and make new acquaintances than in Historic Kailua Village. The Kailua Village Business Improvement District hosts two free monthly events - Kokua Kailua, its popular Sunday stroll, and Hawaiian Sunset Saturdays featuring Hawaiian music and hula - along with Tuesday Trot 5k Fun Run & Walk, a free weekly event.
Kokua Kailua
One Sunday each month from 1pm to 6pm Alii Drive in Kona's Historic Kailua Village becomes a festive, pedestrian-only outdoor marketplace that makes for a fun family-friendly day. Leashed dogs are welcome to stroll too!
Celebrating its 9th year, over 100 Kokua Kailua vendors gather once a month on Alii Drive, from Kailua Pier to Hualalai Road, to showcase shop local opportunities, entertainment and delicious munchies. Local artisans and crafters, musicians and friendly merchants welcome the crowd. There is no better place to spend a Sunday afternoon than strolling through the seaside village. Shop, dine and buy local at Kokua Kailua.

Hawaiian Sunset Saturday
On the last Saturday of every month, everyone is invited to gather at Coconut Grove Marketplace, on Alii Drive, for Hawaiian Sunset Saturday from 5:30 to 6:30 pm to celebrate Kona's spectacular sunset with live Hawaiian music and beautiful hula performed by the dancers of Halau Ka'eaikahelelani, under the direction of kumu hula Yuki Ka'ea Lyons and Lily Kahelelani Lyons Dudoit.
Bring a lawn chair or beach mat and enjoy the outdoor lawn setting as the sun begins its journey over the horizon. As Hawaiian Sunset Saturday comes to a close, attendees can extend the evening at one of many nearby restaurants.
Hawaiian Sunset Saturday is presented at no charge with support from Hawaii Tourism Authority. Parking is available; coolers are not permitted.   
Weekly Tuesday Trot 5k Fun Run and Walk
Improve your fitness and get with the Blue Zone movement at the free Tuesday Trot 5k Fun Run and Walk throughout Historic Kailua Village. Big Island Running Company coordinates the non-competitive, weekly event that begins at their Alii Drive store location in the Coconut Grove Marketplace at 5 pm.  
The 2018 Historic Kailua Village Happenings are brought to you by Kailua Village Business Improvement District with support from community partners KTA Super Stores, Current Events, Kona Commons, On The Rocks, Courtyard Marriott King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel, Huggo's, KBXtreme, Bank of Hawaii, Lex Brodie's Tires, Body Glove Cruises, Brewery Block and Walmart.
