Seven New Teachers

Join our Maktha High School

Compliments to Carnevali Foundation Director, Radhika Atluri, for securing seven new teaching positions at the Maktha High School. This is the greatest assignment of permanent, certified teachers we have ever received at a single time from the Hyderabad Education Office!

Staffing a high school is costly and often very long wait periods are required. When the number of teachers is insufficient, our Foundation funds temporary positions until the permanent ones are made. Radhika is a persistent and skillful communicator.

In the photo above, she was honored by the teachers and Headmaster for this accomplishment. On the left is Chandrasekr, our Operations Manager, who plays a critical role in maintaining our schools and grounds. The new teachers are very excited to be at a school with a library, clean water systems, desks and chairs, exam prep for seniors, gender-based toilets and a computer lab (donated by Goldman Sachs).

We can now shift the cost of temporary teachers to funding the adoption of another school!

History of Maktha School

Building Upgraded

The original classroom building had an asbestos roof. This two- room building was demolished and replaced by a two-story, five -room building structure. The new building included a library, kindergarten classroom, and a toilet block with facilities for boys and girls. Many students had never seen sinks with running water.

Making Potable Water

Children playing and drinking from the original water source which did not meet safety standards for drinking. With funding support from Rotary Clubs of Hyderabad, India, and South Yarmouth, MA, USA, a Reverse Osmosis system was installed to make the water potable.

Construction Site Visits

Jackie, President of Carnevali Foundation, is seen carefully walking down the ramp from the second story under construction. Jackie and Radhika routinely visited the campus to make sure buildings and grounds would serve the students who attended.

Over time as grade levels were added, an additional two- story building was constructed.

Greenery at Maktha

The grounds of Maktha today are outlined with trees planted by Carnevali Foundation and are maintained by the Ayah and Watchman. Water is collected in rooftop storage bins from a bore well (installed by Carnevali Foundation) and the water is filtered through a RO system. 50% of this water is non-potable and used for toilets, cleaning and watering of trees. The rest is potable and enjoyed by all the students and staff.
