A Message from our Pastor and Teacher
Sunday, September 19- “I’ve Been Meaning to Ask…What do you Need?”
Everyone has needs, but each of us needs different things at different times. As a faith community, we believe that God calls us to care for one another – in seasons of joy, transition, and hardship. We commit to listening and being present. In our scripture passage, Job experiences trauma, hardship, and suffering. His friends sit with him rending their clothes and scattering ashes to express lament and deep grief. What are modern-day practices that might emulate these embodied acts?

Reflection of the Week from the Racial Justice Team
|
Kai Ryssdal: And the hot labor market has historically helped Black and Hispanic workers, right? I mean, and that’s part of the reason that [Federal Reserve Chair Jerome] Powell, he says this all the time. And he said, even before the pandemic, “We’ve got to keep the labor market hot because that helps people in the lower end of the income spectrum.”
Wendy Edelberg: It absolutely does help. We’ve seen this. So when 2018 and 2019, we had what I would call a pretty hot labor market. And indeed, the gaps in the unemployment rates between Black workers and white workers were reaching historic lows. Way too high still, but quite low by historical standards. And then the pandemic hit, and those gaps reopened. All right, so now fast-forward 18 months or so, and the gaps have started to come down. But we can’t rely on the cyclical pressure to do all the work for us.
