Winter Storm Alert

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued, warning of significant snow and ice accumulation from Friday through Monday. The storm is expected to cause hazardous travel conditions and disrupt daily life.

Residents are advised to prepare for potential power outages and plan ahead. In case of power outages, it is strongly suggested that you have flashlights (not candles) with extra batteries, at least a 3-day supply of water (one gallon per person/day) and non-perishable food, a battery-powered or hand-crank radio, portable phone chargers, a first aid kit, and sanitation supplies. Keep cash, medication, and warm blankets on hand. Check with your local government to see if a shelter or warming center is available in the event your electric and heat are out for any length of time.

From the National Weather Service

Catastrophic ice accumulations are expected from the Southern Plains to the Southeast/Mid-Atlantic

A significant winter storm is forecast to begin in the Southern Rockies and Central/Southern Plains today, progressing eastward through the Mid-South and into the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast through Monday. This is expected to produce large swaths of heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain, bringing hazardous driving conditions, power outages, and tree damage.

From the Red Cross Winter Storm Preparedness

Take immediate precautions if you hear these words on the news:

Winter Storm WARNING: Life-threatening, severe winter conditions have begun or will begin within 24 hours.

Blizzard WARNING: Sustained winds or frequent gusts of 35 miles per hour or greater, plus considerable falling or blowing snow reducing visibility to less than a quarter mile, expected to prevail for three hours or longer.

Key Travel Advisories for This Weekend

A significant winter storm is heavily impacting travel in Eastern North America this weekend (Jan 24-25, 2026), bringing snow, ice, and dangerously cold temperatures from the Mid-Atlantic to the Northeast. Major airlines (Delta, United, American, JetBlue) have issued waivers for cities like NYC, Boston, DC, and Toronto.

Key Advisories for This Weekend:

  • Aviation Disruptions: Significant flight delays and cancellations are expected, particularly at major hubs in the Northeast and Midwest due to severe weather.
  • Major Airports Affected: JFK, LGA, EWR, BOS, DCA, IAD, PHL, PIT, DTW, and Toronto (YYZ) are likely to see disruptions, according to Delta Air Lines and American Airlines.
  • Road Hazards: Dangerous travel conditions are expected across the region with freezing temperatures.
  • Action Required: Passengers are strongly advised to check flight status frequently, as severe weather will impact travel to, from, or through the affected areas.

For the most up-to-date information, check directly with airlines and the National Weather Service.

When you pass through waters, I will be with you;

through rivers, you shall not be swept away.

When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned,

nor will flames consume you.

– Isaiah 43:2

"Almighty Father, we seek Your shelter in this time of storm. Protect us and our loved ones from harm and danger. Calm the winds, shield our homes, and strengthen our faith. May Your mercy cover all who are in the path of the storm, and may peace reign after the storm. Amen."
