And just like that it’s December! With winter break just a couple weeks away, this month will surely fly by! A reminder that Winter break begins on December 18 and goes through Monday, January 1. School will resume for the new year on Tuesday, January 2.
During this Holiday season, I’d like to express my gratitude for our Seward community. We have had a successful first part of this school year and so much of that is due to the partnership and support of our families and community members. A HUGE THANK YOU to all who supported Seward in reaching our fund-raising goal on Give to the Max Day in November.
Thanks to your generosity our PTA will be able to continue supporting our students and staff with things like school supplies, winter gear, educator grants for classroom enrichment activities, field trips and outdoor learning. We are so thankful for the continued support as we work to ensure that all our children receive a student-centered, hands-on, social justice-oriented experience that is grounded in Montessori education.
Thinking ahead to winter break, I’d like to encourage families to think about ways to keep learning going at home. Things like setting aside time each day for children to read, playing games and engaging children in practical life activities such as helping with household chores, helping to prepare meals, and helping with errands are great opportunities for children to continue to learn and grow in their independence. Engaging children in practical life activities like these is a key characteristic of the Montessori experience.
Thursday, December 14 is our second annual Family Game Night. This is a fun night of Bingo, board games and community building. We hope you can join us from 5:30-7:00 pm for this fun family event.
I wish you all a wonderful December, peaceful holiday season, and happy New Year!
