Dear Seward Families,
Here we are in the last quarter of this school year! In these last few weeks, we turn our focus to reflection and celebration to bring closure to all the experiences we shared throughout the year. The energy, excitement and emotion that comes with this time of year can manifest in many ways. We will do our best to ensure that our students have a joyful and engaging end of the school year and provide lots of opportunities for students to celebrate successes, reflect on their learning and finish the year off strong.
In the month of May we celebrate teacher appreciation. Although May 8 through May 12 is the official week designated for this, it is always a good time to reach out to a teacher to share your appreciation. Teaching is incredibly complex work and we have an amazing teaching staff here at Seward Montessori. Please show them a little extra love this month with a kind word of encouragement or gratitude as we celebrate our teachers and acknowledge them for all they do!
Other things to look forward to this month include our Children’s House registration event on May 4 and our end of year family celebration event on May 19. We look forward to these opportunities to welcome new students and families as well as continue to build connections as a community!
On May 19th, we will host Shark Fest, our final Seward Family Night of the school year. This event will focus on what it means to be a Seward Shark and we will share our new Seward Montessori School Vision, Mission, Commitment and Values statements. The process of rewriting these statements has been a collaborative work in progress over the last year and half. Thank you all for your input along the way! I am proud to have co-created these statements with our community and thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate this work and share these statements at our last family night of this school year. The new Seward Vision, Mission, Commitment and Values are the foundation for our work next year and beyond.
We’ve accomplished a lot this year and I’m very excited about the work ahead as we continue to move towards ensuring our children and families have the best Montessori experience possible in their time at Seward.
In partnership and gratitude,
Ana Bartl

Happy Spring! We have some exciting events coming up. We hope you can come! Here are 2 ways to get involved.
-
We’re having a PTA gathering and open house on May 9 from 8:30-10 am in Room 110 with coffee, donuts, and child care. Stop in anytime to celebrate what we’ve accomplished this year and meet new families!
-
PTA is looking to fill some leadership positions for next year - ensuring that we can keep all the great support for staff, students, and our family community going strong! We need a Co-Treasurer and a Co-Chair. Also, please contact us if you have a connection to an accountant or accounting firm who might be willing to donate a few hours per month for accounting support, or work at a discounted rate. Please contact Jess Nelson at chair@sewardmontessori.org. Thank you for considering!

Health Specialist Update from Jody Volk
|
May 8th-May 26th our E2 Health Classes will be involved in an in-house roller skating program. There is no cost for your child to participate. The skates have hard wheels designed for indoor use only. If your child has their own indoor roller skates, they CAN bring them from home. Students must wear a helmet to participate (we have them here and we have wrist guards!) Your child can bring their own helmet and other protective gear such as wrist guards, elbow pads and knee pads if they wish. Lastly, your child should know their shoe size and must have socks on in order to participate. Thank you, Jody Volk, Seward Health Teacher, jody.volk@mpls.k12.mn.us

Seward's Site Council is seeking members and leadership for next year! If you are interested in being part of an advisory committee at school please consider joining. The site council is a small group of staff, parents, community members, and students who are invested in helping Ana and Clare make site-based decisions about budget and policies. This year, we have helped formulate the school's mission and vision. Site council members commit to meeting once a month for an hour. Each meeting we explore at least one Seward school policy or program and offer guidance/input to support school-based decisions. As we continue to work towards establishing a site council that reflects the student body, BIPOC parents are encouraged to join! Contact current co-chair Katie Nissly if you have any questions or want to learn more about taking on this important role in the next school year. sitecouncil@sewardmontessori.org.

Seward Parent Book Club:
Wed., May 3rd from 7:30-9:00PM on Zoom
For our final Seward Parent book club on the school year, we'll be reading "White Women: Everything You Already Know About Your Own Racism and How to Do Better" by Regina Jackson and Saira Rao.
Plan to read the whole book (or as much as you can by then). As before, we plan to have a couple of copies available to borrow in the main office. If you need/want to borrow one, please email Neota and she can notify you when they're in the office.

Didn't preorder your plants? No problem! There will still be plenty to choose from at the plant sale Friday, May 12 from 9:00 am - 6:00 pm and Saturday, May 13 from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm in at the Seward Montessori Gymnasium.
