Parshat Devarim | Shabbat Hazon
July 16-17 | 8 Av 5781
As you may already be aware, as of Saturday night at 11:59, LA County’s Department of Health is again requiring indoor masking for all people, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated. Beginning on Sunday morning then, masks will be required in our building at all times. The same will be true of course at our Community Shacharit and Kinnot at Beth Jacob. Our Mincha and Learning program at Temple Beth Am will be taking place entirely outdoors. We will share more details about the health order and how it will affect us as we receive them.

TISHA B'AV
After Havdalah, replace your shoes with non-leather shoes and please proceed to shul as quickly as possible. You may drive to shul if you wish. We will begin Ma'ariv at 9:05 PM promptly, and Ma'ariv will be followed by the reading of Eicha.

Tisha B'Av Evening (2 Locations)

There will be two venues for Ma'ariv & Eicha, each beginning at 9:05 PM:

  1. BDJ Social Hall - brief introductory comments with Rav Yosef
  2. Schwarzberg Backyard - 1657 S. Bedford St. Feel free to bring blankets, chairs, and/or flashlights. Men and women will each be reading chapters of Eicha.

In mourning, as in joy, we make a point of gathering as a physical community, and everyone’s physical presence together is a critical element of our Tisha B’av experience. If you are unable to physically attend the reading of Eicha and would like to hear the reading via Zoom, please contact Adynna, at [email protected], who will send you a link.

RECORDING OUR COVID-YEAR REFLECTIONS
What We’ve Learned:
Looking Back at the Unforgettable Years of 5780 and ‘81

Each of us has learned important things over the past year and a half, about life, love, and what's really important. Every one of us is invited to contribute to a compendium of thoughts that we are compiling to be called: What We’ve Learned: Looking Back at the Unforgettable Years of 5780 and ‘81.

We’re going to publish the compendium as a beautiful booklet and have copies for everyone in shul on Rosh HaShana, as a source of thought and inspiration for the new year ahead. To participate, all you need to do is to  compose your 1-2 paragraph reflection (not more!) and submit it to us by August 1st.
