Returning and Improving

Our journey of return to our building has simultaneously been a process of improving upon what we do. Beginning next Shabbat, July 24th, we will return to one of the most spiritually meaningful rituals of our Shabbat morning davening, the procession of the Torah through the Ezrat Nashim (Women's section). The procession will take place as the Torah is returned to the Aron, and our gabbaim and volunteers have created a system by which the procession will not affect the momentum and pacing of davening that we are committed to maintaining. At the same time, we have also devised a way to enhance the ritual's spiritual value, through a small but meaningful change. Rather than relinquishing the Torah at the bottom of the stairs, the woman who is carrying and embracing the Torah will walk it up the stairs and place it into the Aron, which will have been reopened by a gabbait. The shaliach tzibbur will remain at the center Shulchan throughout, reinforcing the status of the area in front of the Aron as belonging neither to the men's section nor to the women's section, which is of course the way we intentionally designed things when we renovated our holy space fifteen years ago. We are looking forward to this change further elevating our shul community's commitment to the idea that Torah is the inheritance of all of us, along with the imperatives to study her words and to walk in her ways.

RECORDING OUR COVID-YEAR REFLECTIONS
What We’ve Learned:
Looking Back at the Unforgettable Years of 5780 and ‘81

Each of us has learned important things over the past year and a half, about life, love, and what's really important. Every one of us is invited to contribute to a compendium of thoughts that we are compiling to be called: What We’ve Learned: Looking Back at the Unforgettable Years of 5780 and ‘81.

We’re going to publish the compendium as a beautiful booklet and have copies for everyone in shul on Rosh HaShana, as a source of thought and inspiration for the new year ahead. To participate, all you need to do is to  compose your 1-2 paragraph reflection (not more!) and submit it to us by August 1st.
