Gemara Shiur
With Rav Yosef
Begins on Monday Evening, October 18th, 7:30-9:00 PM
Everyone is invited to join this year’s Gemara shiur, at which we’ll be studying the third perek of Massechet Shabbat. This perek takes us into both conceptual and practical discussions about how “cooking” is defined in terms of Shabbat law, and how we can work within that definition to nonetheless produce hot food and beverages for and on Shabbat. Following the “cooking” sugyot, the perek moves to a comprehensive study of that concept we call muktzah, and we will discover that it is in fact not one, rather numerous sub-concepts and categories, each with its own parameters and spiritual goals.
Each Gemara shiur includes guided Havruta time. While previous experience with Gemara is a significant plus, everyone is welcome and you may use whichever version of Gemara (Original, Steinsaltz, Artscroll, etc.) works best for you.
We’ve decided to begin the year in an outdoor setting, and are thankful to Rae Drazin who has volunteered her backyard at 1740 Bagley Ave for the first three shiurim. There will also be a zoom option, accessible through this link. We will do our best to optimize the effectiveness of the zoom option.
